I had a chance to talk to Chris today, he was asking for a little help in the bracket / bolt installation for the front accessories.
Here are a few photos I amassed, I figure other people can benefit as well. Water pump has 4 bolts - the two studs go on the passenger side, the shorter bolts go on the driver's side. This might also give you an idea of where the brackets make contact with the heads, etc: a/c bracket/brace: water pump and air emissions pump: Remember this bracket goes on the bottom of the power steering bracket and attaches to the motor mount. Accessories mounted on an exposed engine: More shots: |

please note, C4Williams, these pics are of 89 or 90. Your 87 does not have the same bracket points. For example, the brace to the fuel pump plate? Nope. Don't got.
The way the AC compressor mounts, not so much. These are good general ideas for you, but not 100% live and die solutions. |

Sorry, I should have caught the fact you have an 87. You should have a different ac compressor and a few other minor differences. Perhaps Andy can post a few pictures from his 87 project car.

I will check...
This is the best I got... I took more pics of the blown bearings and anything else. I have this twisted memory... I take mental images and can always seem to put things back together. It's creepy scary at times. |

don't fret this, Williams... it won't be that bad. Once you get the parts laid out, and start to see their relationships, it will make sense.
Regarding the brackets: They are made of pig metal. Strong enough, but don't take to tweaking very well. Make damned sure the bracket is level before you start torquing it down!! |

Not sure if it'll be much help at this point, but this '86 is a bit closer to your '85. I haven't completed all the bracketry, accessories and fasteners, so I know things still need some work and ain't all that pretty yet. This is just to show the OP what the early L98 Accessory Brackets look like going back together.
Water pump only showing the two studs on right side of pump (left in photo). Power Steering Pump Bracket. Power Steering Pump installed, showing the botom bolt going into the block. AIR Pump. AIR Pump Bracket installed. AIR Pump mounted in Bracket. Bottom of AIR Pump Bracket. AIR Pump reinforcing Brace. Alternator, Bracket and Brace. Alternator mounts here. Alternator reinforcing Brace. A/C Bracket. A/C Bracket installed for illustration. Mount A/C Compressor in the bracket before installing on the car to eliminate interference with valve cover on bolt that installes from rear. A/C Bracket and Compressor installed. A/C Bracket and Compressor installed (bottom view). Notice that I've replaced the stock TORX bolt with the flat side that goes in the bottom for an Allen head bolt to make life a bit easier. A/C Bracket and Compressor reinforcing Brace. Tensioner/Idler Pully. Tensioner/Idler Pully Installed. Belt Installed. I haven't done anything with the AIR piping or Valves yet. Let me know if you need shots of that. Best of luck. |
