Just bought a project Vette. Got it running and went for a test drive. Front brakes would not fully release after heating up. Car was sitting for a few years so replaced front pads, rotors, calipers and hoses, flushed good and bled front brakes. Went out again, same problem. Any ideas?
Thanks

I'm thinking master cylinder issues...

Make sure the brake booster engagement rod is set at the correct length. It is adjustable and can be found by unbolting the mc from the booster.

I'll check it, is there a measurement spec? The booster was replaced prior to the car sitting. Not sure if it was used after the install.

if they swapped the booster, I would be concerned they messed with the rod.

Can you manually pull the brake pedal back?

Not sure, the pedal didn't seem to be stuck though.

check the cover on the lower dash. If that isn't right, it will impede the pedals motion.

If the booster was replaced it is possible the rod is too long. That will put pressure on the master cylinder piston and keep the brakes engaged. There isn't a measurement spec I know of. Use a piece of bent wire or something similar to measure the depth inside the mc to the piston and adjust the rod so it is slightly shorter. Might take a little trial and error.

Easy check - loosen up the m'c bolts, pull the m'c away from the fire wall - do the brakes release?

Thanks for the info, will update progress when I get to try the suggestions. If the ABS is not working would that cause them not to release? How would you quick check the ABS function?
Thanks again, really good paths to follow!

Well the problem was in the master cylinder! After trying everything I took the master cylinder off and disassembled it. Both springs were broken in several places there-by not returning to neutral position. Bought one (re-manufactured) at local discount parts house and it was defective. Got another (new)and works good except the brake light on the info center stays on. There is 1 light out on the 3rd brake light so will check that out soon.
Thanks again, Bob

Excellent job finding the problem!

Did you bench bleed the new mc before you put it on? Could cause the light to come on.

As far as the third brake light, the bulbs are pretty easy to replace, just get ready for sticker shock when you see the price for that stupid bulb. I converted mine to led, there is a thread in the archives.

Yep, josephf31, you were right!! I really appreciate all the timely input from all of you. It is soooo helpful knowing there is a place to get real information from people that know their stuff and have "been there and done that". Thanks again, Bob
PS. I have other "issues" to research now that it can roll! You'll be hearing of them soon.

The switch on the M/c needs resetting to the central position

12V JC halogen bulbs work great.

Just need to adjust the pin spacing slightly to fit in the 3rd light sockets

How do you re-set the switch to the central position on the M/C? Never heard of having to do that.

Add me to the list. I'm interested in this. I checked the FSM and I found was this statement in section 5A:

"The pressure differential switch is designed to constantly compare front and rear brake pressure from the master cylinder. The switch turns "ON" the warning lamp on the dash in the event of a front or rear system failure. The combination valve is designed so that the switch will latch in the warning position once a failure has occurred. The only was the lamp can be turned "OFF" is by repairing the failure and applying a moderately high pedal force."

So perhaps now that you've got the new m/c installed you have to jam on the brake pedal hard to reset the sensor.

A while now since I replaced the M/c
Plunger in differential switch has a groove visible by looking in the switch hole that needs to be in the center
Recall I unscrewed the switch to see which way the plunger was offset to ( front or rear system? )
Then I opened a bleeder on other side and pushed the pedal ( same as bleeding ) so as to move the plunger back to the central (off ) position
