I last replaced mine in in December 2010 and thought I was past that epidemic of universally bad after-market choices. Apparently not, as this one is leaking after around 2000 miles and has to be topped off every couple of weeks. Has anyone replaced theirs and gotten at least oh, say, five thousand miles out of the new one? If so, what brand did you go with? TIA..

Wish I could help you, JT, but I drive an automatic.
You will get your answer here, just takes a few minutes.

(It has been awhile, but I was delighted to see your post. I would
guess #1 kitty is no longer with us. Hope all is well.)

NAPA. I got one from NAPA 3+ years ago and it's been excellent.

The slave is cast instead of that questionable welded thing.

No leaks, nothing.

Expect to pay about $100. It was made in Taiwan. Part number NCF 73116.

Hey Don, it's been a while for sure. Yes, as the New Agers say, Cat #1 made his transition about three years ago, a week shy of 22 yo. Other big change was I got divorced. If you're afraid that I'm now catless, fear not. While the ex took just about all the furniture when she moved out, she left most of the cats. So I'm still happily scooping away...

Thanks Andy, I'll check to see if I can order online from NAPA as there doesn't seem to be any actual stores near me...

Thanks but actually it was a relief for both of us. Nobody had been having any fun for a long time. No kids so that made it a lot easier...

The OEM is the problem!! GM had a run of them where the seals were installed backwards, and, because they sat on the shelf for so long, started to rust internally.

This is a case where aftermarket fixed the bug... so to speak.

Not with Jim's

he bought all the OEM pieces, he puts them together correctly.

Jim also refinishes the Master Cylinders.. the Aftermarket Cast ones don't last long, I bought new pieces from Jim and they work great.

Way back in 2005 when the OEM backwards seal was backwards I was one that helped Bill B confirm it.. I had 3 that way..

I've seen some where electrolysis seems to happen between the bore and the piston. This will pit the bore and allow the fluid to leak past after 3/4 travel or so. I can't recall which ones this happened to, but I'd want to make sure the piston and casting or DOM piece are made of the same metal.

Interesting... I have about 13k miles on my NAPA cast unit, and it is great. A little flash rust outside, but the coating is holding up well. No leaks, no loss of pressure. I should change fluid, tho... To be honest, I haven't added fluid in the three + years it's been installed.
