Is it possible to reroute the serpentine belt and has anyone have a belt size/part number to use?
The old A/C compressor seized up and the smog pump has a little squeal to it. I was wondering if this would even work. 1. Swap out the smooth idler pulley for a grooved one. 2. remove smog pump 3. reroute belt around pulley to alternator. Below is the belt route of a 84 crossfire. For the tensioner to maintain proper tension on the belt it needs to route under it in such a way that it maintains near 90 degree angles around the other pulleys. The belt will start slipping once you show it less contact surface.
If you're uninterested in repairing the A/C and smog accessories, you can buy both delete pulleys for them on Ebay for under $100 for the pair. Just search TPI Delete and you'll get plenty of both. |

here is the trick... all belts exist, it's just finding it.
Remove the parts you want to remove. Using the existing belt, lace it the way it is going to route - make sure you maintain proper direction of the accessory, if it goes in reverse, that must be maintained! Then, cut the belt... line it up and mark it with a grease pen. Head to the parts shop and match up accordingly. |

That is for a L98 but my preferred method as it does away with the idler completely This one is for a CFI retaining the idler as the OP suggests http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-ge ... lete-ford-tempo-belt.html FWIW the idler pulley doesn't need to be grooved as it is only tensioning the belt ; not driving anything with a load on it. |
