eBay Motors has tons of vendors selling nylon gears and bushings for $24 each versus $60 and up for the bronze gears and bushings. My nylon gears lasted nearly 20 years why wouldn't they last another ten if replaced with the $25 cheapies? I also have seen a few vendors selling aluminium versions for about $45. Aluminium should work OK too.

the gears only really get screwed up when the bushings die... I still use the nylon. If it was a case of first time in, I would go bronze, but the nylon is just fine.

I checked out the fixed light system that the guy from CF developed but don't like the bug-eye look too much.

Don, you can get the bushings at any parts store. They are the exact same bushings Ford used in their window motors for many years.

Yeah, I have the Dorman part number. Do you think the chances are that just the bushings need replacing and the gear is fine? I guess it wouldn't hurt to take a look see and then go get the bushings. A search of the local Advance Auto and Auto Zone showed that each store only had one pack on hand.

Don't get the bronze, waste of money. Go to the parts store and get the ford window regulator bushings for 6.99/3 pack - you will need one set for each side. I just fixed a pair of headlights about 2 weeks ago with these same bushings. I give you a 99.9% chance that will fix your problem.

Thanks Matt and all for saving me about $100. I took the first one apart and the bushings were pulverized but the gear appears to be in 100% perfect condition. I got that one back together and cleaned up, now gonna have a beer and start the passenger side!!

I read in one of the vette magazines that bronze gears are more strain on the H/L motor, and plastic was preferred by the author.

Doesn't SEEM like it would, but I don't know better about it to argue... (and I WOULD rather a plastic gear (or delrins) give out, than the H/L motor)
