Between a late C3 and a new streetbike.
I may have to start paying for my own gasoline if I take this new job that may be offered to me next month. So, a motorcycle is appealing. Over 50 MPG... Plus I really miss having a motorcycle in the garage. BUT.... There has been this silver C3 sitting in a parking lot for sale for sevaral months now. I look at it every time I drive by, but did not notice the price until yesterday. $6,000. I don't know exactly what year, but I'm gonna say '81-'82. I don't know my C3s hardly at all. Chrome bumper, or not chrome bumper is about it. But from the air dam, I am sure it is one of the last couple years. The paint looks like it may be a little rough. No idea what tranny is in it. I actually would prefer an auto for this one, as my wife likes C3s, and I would love to get one she could enjoy. I'll be sure to get an education here before I make a purchase, if that's the way it goes down. Maybe I'll snap some pix to share. Time to start learning about C3s... |

I'd say go for the c3 :thumbleft:
I sold my bike just after I bought my c4. My wife never liked the bike. I think she rode on it maybe 3 times ever. I bought her leathers, helmet, etc - she was alwasy scared of an accident. Never wanted me to ride it. She never made me feel guilty about it, but I knew that she was nervous everytime I rode. She loves the c4 though. I think most women have that feeling (not all, of course). But like you, I want to learn as much as I can. Keep us posted. Matthew |

I have both a bike and a C3. The bike I have had for 12 years and have done a lot of work to it. However, people don't drive cars very well these days. It scares the shit out od me to be on the same streets with these idiots. Therefore the bike is seldom used theys days.
It's a shame really. |

I was looking at C3s before I looked at C4s. My brother
talked me out of C3s by having me do my homework. Horsepower, handling etc. Take it for a ride before you decide. I agree that in todays environment riding a bike on the steets with the general population today is risky business. It's always watch out for the other guy and there are more in car distractions than ever. I'd feel safer on trike or bike with all the dressings to make it appear larger so you could be seen. They'll still cut you off. |

You have to do what makes YOU most comfortable. I don't get anywhare near 50MPG on the bike, (I won't even talk about the MPG the Vette gets)but it's worth it to me. Then consider the weather.

Lesson #1
If you don't already know this... from now on, a Birdcage has nothing to do with birds, and EVERYTHING to do with RUST. |

Maybe we need to come up with a C3 buyer's guide. |

At least a sheet of things to look for. C3's have a unique set of problems to watch for- I'm sure other generations do to. Maybe help keep someone from making a $10,000 mistake. |

Thanks guys. Yes, I have heard about the birdcage. I guess there is a panel that you need to remove to inspect the lower section. I will have to get that figured out before I get serious. That, and see if I actually fit in one....
I did not get the chance to look at the car yesterday. The wife took the wind out of my sails a little by making a very valid point. I should probably not buy anything until I find out the details of the job I am considering taking. I think it will pay quite a bit more. But I would hate to not be able to take the job if it paid less, just because I blew a wad of cash on a car. But I need to take some time for research anyway. Yes, a buyer's guide would be FANTASTIC! I've said it many many times on this forum and others. Bogus' C4 Buyers guide really helped me out when I purchased my Ruby! |
