I just put a new engine in my GMC jimmy. The front seal between the timing chain cover and the oil pan is leaking. There is about an 1/8 inch gap where you can see the seal between the two. It is leaking at the part that meets the pan. Any ideas to seal this without having to pull the engine or the pan.

The only way I know of in properly replacing the timing cover on any small block (6 or 8) is dropping the pan at least 1/2" to allow the timing cover front pan gasket to get compressed once the pan is re-tightened.

What engine? What year?
The SBC has 2 different front covers, that take 2 different thickness front seals between the timing cover and oil pan. Will |

It is a 4.3l V6. Here is a picture of the timing cover. It is leaking at the top of the blue seal where the cover, pan and block meet.
