Suggest WD40 while it is running. Spray all the gasket joints. If the motor "catches" & runs smooth for a second or two you have found at least one vacuum leak.
Did you dry fit the base manifold to check manifold to head clearance? If the manifold has been milled for use on a block with zero deck or with milled heads you will need thicker manifold to head gaskets. If you had trouble getting the manifold bolts started in the heads it more than likely has been milled. |

Need a break. Fires on first click and raves to about 2000 for about 10 sec and dies real smooth running Replaces and rerouted some lines. Getting close. Not enough time to get out and spray anything. My helper left.
After another glass of wine more visual test. |

Surprising things I checked very closely. The first two bolts I put my screwdriver on were very loose. I used antiseize on all the bolts to lesson the chance of vacuum leaks would be minimized. If I would have used locktight this would have a bigger pita. On a new learning curve right now.
Will start again when it warms up. 32 right now. This is the port the bolt was dropped in. Off to O'rilles for gaskets. |

Nonsense. Antiseize on any bolt going into an aluminum head and on your aluminum superram. Gaskets compress and sometimes require 2-3 cycles of tightening. Tighten everything in stages and evenly. I have no leaks with my superram with that method. |

If the bolt threads are damaged the manifold or head threads in the aluminum are damaged.
Ace hardware or NAPA should have the proper size tap to hopefully clean up the female threads without them needing heli-coils. Take a good bolt with you to determine the thread size. Purchase a tap & 2 new bolts. If you can use bolts that are slightly longer get them. Some grease on the tap will collect the shavings. |

I would not use a tap unless necessary. I would try a thread restorer first. A tap can remove material in the bolt hole and if it's too much you won't get a good tight seal/connection with the bolt and thread.
I have this, works well: http://m.summitracing.com/parts/shc-9 ... MrQy5r30rsCFcxAMgod3SgA5A |

hm... I am not a fan of antiseize on any bolt where torque must be maintained - or made. It changes the torque numbers dramatically. I would rather go in dry. For example - a bolt that requires 30 ft lb dry will grow to 45+ with antisieze. That screws up all sorts of equations! Antiseize is super slick shit... and it will throw torque settings off in a big way. The proper solution is to get bolts that are coated in the right material to keep from reacting to the aluminum. This is how GM overcame the problem in the first place. |

There is no way I would put a stainless steel bolt into aluminum without anti-seize or arp thread sealant. I agree it changes torque values, but don't be king kong tightening things down and you are ok.
I don't know where this chart came from, but it's the only one I could find online: This site supposedly addresses anti-seize concerns: http://www.sw-em.com/anti_seize.htm |

What is your point? ARP thread sealant has PTFE (teflon), which is known for being slippery and it remains non-hardened after installation....RTV makes stuff stick and hardens. You are not comparing similar substances. ARP sealant is similar to putting on teflon tape and it certainly changes torque values vs RTV. |

I have a similar problem going from park to reverse. I think mine is in the tune. I have replaced my IAC and found zero vacuum leaks. I see the commanded idle speed vs actual on the scanner and the computer tries to over compensate the IAC motor. I have heard of others with similar problems with the SR. I read the tuner can adjust the IAC tables so it is not as sensitive.

Read this not sure if this is relevant.
Regarding the erratic cold start: It is difficult to get the right balance between start-up fuel enrichment vs coolant temp, open loop fuel vs coolant temp. spark advance and desired idle rpm vs coolant temp to get a stable idle right from start-up through warm-up. Expect lots of fine tuning in these areas to get it right. Regarding stalling: Stalling with the clutch disengaged while rolling is likely a mismatch between the min air and the warm IAC park position vs. coolant temp table. Not enough air! Either the min air is insufficient or the warm IAC park position vs coolant temp table is permitting the IAC to close too far. This needs to be tuned to match the car's demand for air at idle vs coolant temperature. A short term fix would be to increase the min air to something close or equal to your normal desired warm idle rpm, that way the IAC can't reduce the air to the point of stalling. It helps if you know the desired idle rpm to set the min air appropriately. If you increase the min air, be sure to set the tps back where it belongs, or the warm IAC park position table will hold the rpm up in a stationary idle. I see you have an 86 4+3. FYI: we recently hacked an 88 bin to work specifically for 86 4+3 cars. See this thread for more details: |

The IAC may be dropping out to early suggest trying the base idle @ 550 to 600. If that works leave it until the ECU relearns the system.
Mine had a microscopic flat spot off closed loop idle what finally eliminated it was a TPS setting of .58. It still gave 31 mpg left lane interstate. AC off, 6sp car. Ran it that way for 3+ years. |
