thanks Jeff.

I'm going to try and work on my programmer and wanted to see what I was in for. From a chip stand point it doesn't appear that there are many. Between the caps, diodes and resistors i hope I can track down the bad ones and replace

Did you troubleshoot with section 8a and determine it was the programmer?

It's pretty funny in that section as the trouble shooting tree ends up with replace programmer regardless of how you answer the questions!

The only difference is you either make it there in 3 answers or 6.

Lol...have you gotten a chance to pull it yet? I know on the older ones there can be bad solder joints, etc, causing the problems.

If you replace it, look for one from a 95 because the nipples that the vacuum hoses connect to are hard plastic instead of soft. The 96 model specifically has a problem with those soft ones closing up and not allowing you to switch the position of the air vents.

I'm going to try and pull it, boy does that sound wrong, later today.
I know 96 is a one year only programmer, but can it be replaced with any 90+ module?

Midget contortionists are best-suited for removing the programmer. It is held on by an annoying little push-nut - I managed to grab an edge of it with a needle-nose pliers and twist it until it broke off, and used a nylock nut when I reinstalled it. Then, once I got the programmer loose, there was barely any slack in the vacuum lines, so that was delightful as well. Good luck!!

I wish it was as simple as a pinched vacuum line
