bogus Rear Diff Lube Question

The D44 in my 92 coupe is on its last legs... The howl is getting worse. After 203k miles, the bearings aer about done.

As a stop gap, I was wondering if using something like Lucas 75-140 synthetic grease, with diff lube would be a safe fix for now.

My thinking is that the heavier oil would behave much lik using 20-50 in an older engine.

This is the stuff: http://lucasoil.com/products/gear-oil ... 5w-140-synthetic-gear-oil

thoughts?

I've heard of it, but it obviously won't fix anything. No idea if it works. What do you have to lose?

I'm not sure the same logic applies.

If its gear noise then maybe a thicker viscosity gives better film strength... but if it's the roller bearings making noise maybe thicker fluid would actually put more stress on them or not lubricate as well.

I'd be looking at some of the magic-in-a-bottle type products to buy some time before just thicker fluid.

I run 75W 140 in all my rear diffs. The Lucas is goood oil. I have the Lucas 75W 140 in my race car and Valvoiline Synpower 75W 140 in the 92.

It's better gear oil as far as strength peroid. 75W cold pour weight is still pretty thin.

140 weight has a higher sheer load rating than 90 weight.

The only place a 90 weight gear oil will be better is on gas mileage.
