Here's a way around burning chips
BlowerWorks;
Hi Doug !

The C4 L98 ECM's are quite powerful. Maybe not as sophisticated as a C5 & up but more than adequate to handle a turbo or blower. Much of the C5 and up PCM's are for trans etc. and not needed for the C4. In fact the C4 ECM is really easy to do real time tuning which you cannot do on the C5 etc. without major mods. Add an Ostrich to a C4 along with TunerPro RT or TunerCat RT software and you'd be surprised !!! Also I offer new slot style MAF's (1985 thru 1989) that can easily support 1000 RWHP. I also offer 2 or 3 BAR tunes for the 1990/91 and if you get into the LTx's there are even more options. All of this is easily done w/o an aftermarket ECM.
I understand your reluctance to deal with C4's but expertise is available and the hardware is actually pretty good. It always comes down to money and I know better than most what a difficult business this is !!!!!!!!!!! greg
Plugs into the chip slot, it only emulates the chip.

Just installed one in my 1987. Very easy. The Ostrich is fantastic little device :-)
Cool that he still makes it. I had that on my wishlist awhile back.

Smog mode, track mode, mileage mode, test mode.... fun.

Thanks for the reminder to guys. The ostrich has been out for a while. I actually have one but don't use it much. It's good for tuning on the fly, then you can burn a permanent chip. When I had the ostrich installed I had issues when the cable flexed - I would lose connection.

The maf is a great step forward, though. I know that has been out for a bit. It's not a complete stock replacement, you have to tune for it.

I hate chip burning.

When I built the 92 we used the Moats adapter for 27SF512 chips.... of course now those things are almost impossible to get.

So if I do this - once I'm into an Ostrich and cables that's like another $200.....

Guess I'll just wait and once my 27SF512 chip takes a dump spend the money then....

How many times can you burn a chip? Is it like recording over an 8-track? lol

You can burn a chip over and over....I don't know the actual life cycle. You can purchase chips on the moates site if you need a spare.
