Do you need just the trans or are you doing a conversion? Have you seen the NEW ZF6s on ebay for about $1400?

I bought mine to do my conversion from ebay, and it worked out fine.

It's always a risk buying a used trans, especially when you're looking at units with 90K on them.

ive got a 1988 4+3 so if i got 6 speed i will need the conversion also. or if central coaster still has that 4 speed ill do that. i would like to do the 6 speed but it will get costly. so i prefer to do the 4 speed to save money and put that money saved into somthing else in the car cause i do have to do alot of work on the car.

How many miles does it have out of curiosity?

He says is shifts smooth, so if he's honest, that covers the syncros.

You might make sure it's been kept up with the correct oil- ask him when was the last time it was changed and with what fluid.

Also find out why it was pulled- accident?

Hopefully it was pulled from a wrecked car, I can't think of any other reason it would be pulled and still good.

The seller can't/won't inspect the synchros for you, it's not easy like on the Super T10 (that I still need to check for you). Ask him what lube he used and when it was changed last. He has to drain it before shipping unless he has a cap for the rear seal.

That first link is way overpriced.

If you do get a used ZF, change the rear seal before you install it.

These are very durable transmissions, they have a pretty low failure rate so I wouldn't worry too much about used if the owner can give you some good info. Only real weakness I've seen posted more than once is the overdrive gears can overheat if run at high speeds (~150mph) for too long and fail.
