Morning guys.... slept in a little bit.It is a sunny, seasonably cool and calm start to the day. I believe it is supposed to be a pretty nice day, until later this afternoon, then the chance of storms creeps back in through Wednesday.
Not much on the agenda today. I hope all of you have a relaxing day. |

ALL IS CALM, ALL IS HAZY IN THE NATIONS, A PLEASANT 70 DEGREES AND CALM. THE MUNCHKINS ARE ALL STILL ASLEEP. THEY WORE GRANDMA OUT YESTERDAY, OR RATHER SHE WORE HERSELF OUT--- ELECTRICITY HAS BEEN RESTORED IN FT GIBSON, BUT THE RIVER IS STILL RISING. FT GIB IS AT THE JUNCTION OF TWO OTHER RIVERS FLOWING FROM THE NORTH WITH THE ARKANSAS, WHICH GREATLY EXACERBATES THE SITUATION. AUTO ROTATION ON MY AGENDA, HARVEY AT BAT THIS WEEK, DON'T KNOW WHAT DW PLANS FOR THE KIDS. IGNORANCE IS BLISS :-) |

Nice day here and I'm piddling about the yard. Bird feeders, spreading sand, wedding circles around the fruit trees plus other stuff as I do it. Marcus, did the alocasia take hold? Just wondering. |

Yah Tommy they are still fighting.....they underwent a vicious attack from a raccoon the other night. The coon dug them all up in his errant search for grubs or tender bulbs to eat. The coon also ripped open a bag of bird seed we had left on the deck and made a big mess there..... Lynn has high hopes they will recover....... I said.... there is always hope.......
I would like to honor my Dad today..... Lieutenant Everett Dennis 15th Air Force 455th Bombardment Group...... 740th Bombardment Squadron. They flew missions into Italy with B24 Liberators...... I know he also flew B-17's out of Italy but I do not find the records on that. I found an interesting note allowing him to carry a Frontier model Colt Revolver, Caliber .45 with belt and holster as a personal firearm. He brought that with from Montana when he went overseas. I never knew what happened to that weapon but would dearly love to have it now. He did bring back a German Lugar and a .38 Beretta semi automatic which I do still have. He survived the war and came home to marry my Mom and went to the Mission field for the Methodist Church in the mid 50's....... I asked him about that one time and he said he wanted to do some good for all the death and destruction that he had been a part of. He had a long career in Agriculture getting his PHD in 1960. His early work in soil chemistry and work establishing the Cation Exchange Capacity is the standards of what we use to this day. He maintained his Ministerial license and would preach at small churches in rural Kansas that could not afford a full time pastor. He also married my wife and I in 1983. Doc was killed with his best friend in 1988 while flying home from Montana where he had blessed his first grandchild and my oldest daughter. His 182 Cessna which he had thousands of hours in iced up over the Black Hills and they crashed on approach to the Rapid City Airport. They had been given emergency landing permission at Ellsworth Air Force base in Rapid City but chose to follow the glide slope into Rapid City municipal.... they ended up 2 miles short of the runway. I'm proud of my old man and all he accomplished.....and look forward to playing another round of golf with him someday....... |

Great history there Marcus. I don't know where would be if not for the fighting men and women who were and are willing to give it all so that we can celebrate our freedom. I salute all active military and those that served but especially the ones we honor today that gave their lives serving this great nation, The United States of America. My flag flies high today with another flag honoring the POW and MIA. I understand and recognize the declaration of Memorial Day.

In talking to Tee one time I think we established that his father also served as a pilot in the 15th Air Force....he also flew bombers...... I hope I am remembering that right......

In all the years since the war, Dad never talked much about his participation in the war, and as such, I never thought that he experienced much. But in the 1990s his bombing group started having reunions and then he began opening up about his part in the war. After one of his reunions he came home and wrote this story of one of his bombing missions. RIP Dad! You are an American hero!
