what kinda issues are you having?
Many issues on a C4 can be handled by a good general technician. In turn, it does not require you to spend huge dollars at a specialty shop. Not all specialty shops are bad, but they do have a generally poor rep of burning people on the bill. A woman over at CF got raped by a shop up in Illinois a few weeks back... she overpaid by at least 1000.00, because they double charged on labour. Just be cautious. |

I have tried a few shops here that should have been able to find the cause but have not yet. The noise coming from the right rear sounds like a clunking and sqeaking noise but all ujoints seem fine. It happens more when I accelerate and sometimes not at all. One shop told me my transmission was bad. I would just like to be sure of what the problem is before pouring money in it.

sounds to me like it might be bearings.
especially with the noise coming from the rear. |

Mine made a similar sound before I replaced the bearings...it's not hard to check...get the Vette in the air and see if there is any play in the wheel (try to move it laterally) if there's any "slop" you've found the problem.

yea, bearings are not too bad... just be sure to have a supply of T55 torx sockets... well, depending on vintage, that is.

Well got her fixed today, turn out once I got into it that the problem was the u-joints on the half shaft. Wheel bearing was still good. Changing out all the rest this weekend. Not that I am complaining because the u-joints are alot cheaper to replace. Thanks again for all the tips. :thumbright:

cool! glad to hear all is well.
ujoints can make one think the bearing is failing. It's one of those things where it is perhaps a good idea to replace both the bearings and the ujoints at the same time. it does save on the labour a bit. |

Glad you found the problem. I've been away for abit and just saw your post. If you don't mind driving a little ways, I can recommend an auto shop in Inverness. The owner and one of the mechanics own their own Vette and they do mechanical and restoration work. Myself and a few others from the Citrus County Corvette Club use this shop. The owners name is Cliff and shop is located on 44E heading towards Wildwood. I don't have the exact address but the number is (352) 344-1110 and called East Cove Auto Center.

Thanks crewzin, alot of this stuff I can tackle myself but its always nice to know of a mechanic to fall back on. My dad lives near Inverness so I get out that way often. Thats a pretty nice drive from here about an hour. I'll have to stop in one day. :thumbright:
