Of course I know you guys are going to say change the bushings.... but.....Just changed all 3 bushings in each motor as the headlights were not going up or down all the way. Re-assembled everything and hooked it back, turned the lamps on... headlamps work as they should, except the damn motor continues to run. It does it on either up or down. I've repaired about 50 of these damn things and never ever had an issue!

The gears are rooted, or the worm gear is slipping on the shaft.
Forget the stupid bloody bushings, get the right sized ball bearings and use that instead. Stupid f***en system it is anyway, 84-87 was WAY better and loads more reliable. You can get bronze gears for them too. |

If it continues to run can't it also be the module or headlight switch???

I'd say the gears are stripped like Case said. That would account for the motor continuing to run. Is there a clicking sound when you push up or down on the lid??

Took mine apart to replace the bushings and there was nothing wrong with them. The shaft was spinning inside the large gear. I JB welded it all together and its been working great for almost a year now. |

As usual when I pull these things apart, I clean the teeth on the large white gear. No evidence of stripping. Everything works together fine other than the excessive run on time. I'm going to swap out control modules with a spare and see how that goes.
Thank god I don't have to worry about this shit on a race car. |

If the motor is still running and the bucket has not rotated all the way to the stops.....something has to be slipping.

If the shaft is slipping in the gear you will not be able to see it unless it is really bad. I have some pictures of what I did someplace I can put up latter. You can test for it by taking the large gear out grab the shaft, probably with some pliers or something that will hold it tight and try twisting the gear by hand. If it does not slip by hand itÂ’s probably ok. |

It can move all the way to the stop and keep running but it is not suppose to. If it keeps running and the light is not moving then something is slipping. |

Mine was so loose by the time I figured out what was going on it just pulled out but hand easily. Used the JB weld and put it all back together and it works great. |
