Dear all

I have been trying to work out how to get the cigarette lighter to work in the 92 - I do not yet have a User's Manual for the car and hope one of you may be able to shed some light on this.

I have subsequently pulled all the fuses to check for a damaged one but all looked good

any ideas much appreciates

PS - the car does not yet have a radio fitted (could this account for it)

I had to take my lighter out take it apart and clean it up real good. After putting it back together all is fine. If you look in yours and it looks at all rusty or corroded that could be the problem.

Ground the lead of a 12v test light and probe the center terminal of the lighter socket if it lights the fuse is good. A test light is also a great way to test fuses without removing them from the panel, just ground the lead and probe the metal tab on each side of every fuse with the tip.
If only one side lights the fuse is blown, if neither side lights try again with the key in the "ON" position, many circuits are only hot with the key in the run position.

Dear Bogus and Toptech

thanx guys - you say right side under the knee bolster - I would never have looked there - is this a 2nd fuse box (versus the outward passenger fuse box?)

Toptech - your great suggestion is plan B

thanx fellas

No, just one fuse box on yours. Bogus must be thinking of the earlier years.

Forgive me 95vette - are you saying the fuse is not under the knee bolster on a 92 vette? (would you happen to know where it is)

thanx

Fuse block should be on the right end of the instrument panel

Open the cover

Look on the back and notice the fuses are identified!

Notice the one that says "CIGAR", bottom row, fourth from the left (blue 15amp, that should be the one.

I can't find a 92 Owners Manual on line but here is a link to a 93 manual, it should help until you get one, except for Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) the cars should be very similar.

1992 Vettes have a sub fuse panel above the right knee bolster, yes. that is correct.

It should be the same for 1990 and 1991. Actually, I thought it was like that for all later C4s.

Fixed - turns out was not the fuses at all - when I was fitting a new radio (and had the center console out to do it) I noticed the wires in the back of the lighter were not connected - pluggem em in and 'bobs my uncle'

thanks for all your help and great advise
