I am currently replacing the plugs '92 LT1, engine code P. The service manual specs a flat seat plug with gasket P/N AC904. The plugs that I bought are a tapered seat Bosch P/N 4205. I want to make sure that they will seal without hurting the heads.

Can't tell ya' about plugs right or wrong. I did mine 2 months ago, and thought I had stripped one. Got a REAL sick feelin' in my gut too. I had them barely in more than finger tight - I couldn't see how I had done it.

Couple of weeks later, I pulled one side plugs to pull the exhaust manifold. All 4 that side were loose. Didn't care a bit, instead of having a stripped plug bore in the aluminum head.

Use care, even starting them...

I got Bosch platinum +2 #4305

Thanks for the info. They should be ok, I've checked several other manufacturers and they also have the tapered plug.

Hrmm. Usually with aluminum heads you use gasket seat plugs.

I contacted Bosch. The service specs from GM, has engine code P as a tapered plug, and J as a gasket seat.

It has been confirmed. The previous owners mechanic had put the wrong plugs in. The gap was even incorrect (.040). The gaskets on the plugs from the drivers side had oil on them from not being sealed on the seat, it wasn't from the valve covers they are clean. I also put a new set of Taylor plug wires on. There is a huge difference in the performance. Thanks for everyones help.
