The rattle sounds like you may not have gotten the auto trans convertor dust cover re-installed properly. You should check that first, and also the bracket on the back-end of the starter.

With regard to slow acceleration, I would focus on the changes you made to the fuel system.

Check what you changed first.

Was it running fine before you did any work?

Check for anything loose under the car that you may have removed during the maintenance. Not to sound insulting, but is the fuel filter installed with the correct flow direction (should be arrows on the casing). If the problems started immediately after your work, that's the first thing I'd double check.

Like prozac said, rattle could be the internals of the cat breaking apart and clogging things up. You can try disconnecting the exhaust before the cat to relieve pressure and see if that makes a difference. The lack of air tube shouldn't have an effect (my air system is removed). The air tube was to put fresh air into the cat to reduce the emissions numbers.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I wonder if the filter was installed backwards?

New starter hanging up and gear not retracting is another guess.

I can't beleive that a starter dragging would cause that much of an issue. You would also hear it.

Did you plug the hole on the converter side?

yes, that's correct.

it looks like a can, the inlet side is smooth, the outlet looks like a can of corn, meaning, it has a lip on it.

you can find that out easily enough... remove it and take a look inside. If the monolith is broken, it will be obvious. You can also tap it with a rubber mallet and listen for rattles inside.
