So I have a small problem.

I recently purchased a new chrome 1 wire alternator 100 amp model for my 82.

1st off it was said to be a one wire alternator and I will say it works that way but it also has the additional 2 wire plug.
Am I hurting anything by having that plug plugged into the alternator?

2nd Ever since installing this alternator I have noticed that my battery drains when the car is parked for extended periods of time ( say a week)
What could be the cause of this? Is there any way to check for this draw?

Thanks for everyones help.

With the car off use a DVOM between the alt leads and the alt to see if it is drawing down the battery.

Why would a single-wire alternator have that plug?

A single-wire has to be self-exciting. The ones with that plug aren't, and should need it hooked up.

Have you verified the voltage before and after the car sits? Have you measured the current draw? Is it possible its draining as you drive?

The only way I can see the alt draining your battery while sitting is if there's a short inside it somewhere.

Did you have issues with the previous alternator? Maybe it killed your battery. A battery with a weak cell will lose charge just from sitting, while still being good enough to start/drive the car.

***The alternator does work with out the plug as that is how it is right now***

***Yes the voltage is within .2v of where it was***

***The alternator puts out a consistant 15.3V***

***The previous alternator worked great I just wanted a chrome model, The battery is in perfect condition just had it tested.***

Usually when an alternator drains a battery it's because there is an internal problem. It might have just been a bad alternator.

The other problem is that for a car like a C3 you will be better off with a 3 wire alternator. The 1 wire alternators seem to run full tilt more and tend to wear out faster.

Try unplugging that plug and using the one wire it was designed for and see if it charges as it's supposed to.

The single wire alternator's I've seen have that connector blocked off. Yeah, try leaving it disconnected.
