Hi guys, still been putting in some time on my vette, but also taking care of business otherwise. I'm looking at changing out my heater hoses. The top hose on my '88 has a
5/16" crossover tube running to the intake manifold, just in front of the distributor. Is this necessary? What happens if I eliminate it and just run a regular heater hose to the water pump? Thanks for your help... |

That's a steam vent from the back of the intake. I would worry you might get vapour lock type of effect if you block it off.
The heating system is designed to stop air bubbles from forming. And with as prone to hot running that these cars are, I wouldn't mess with the design. |

Mine was taken out by the previous owner or maybe when it was converted to RHD and does not seem to have caused any issues for me, been running that way for about 16 years now.

Mine was removed when I threw the TPI setup in the dumpster.
Was a strange vette thing anyway. The Fbody didn't have such a thing and they ran fine. -- Joe |

Ooh, so it's a 'vette only part. In that case, you can probably sell it for a couple thousand dollars. Otherwise, it's worthless. I would think it would be less likely to get a vaporlock when refilling the antifreeze system with that hose intact, but if done right you won't have a vaporlock anyway. |
