I'm having some LCD speedo problems.
When I start to drive, I have 0 all the time. Then, as I drive,
speedo strats to jump from 0 to actual speed and back to 0.
As I continue to drive, I get more and more actual speed shown.
Then finally, after driving for 15 minutes or so, speedo starts to work
normally all the time.

Any idea what could be wrong?

My guess would be either a bad cluster or ECM...

Andy knows a little more about these, but have you checked for a short or bad wire between the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and the ECM?

I am going to guess (and it is only a guess) that the VSS is the problem. It is not properly picking up the signal and transmitting it to the CCM. Not a wiring problem, bad VSS. On the big semi trucks, especially the Volvos this was a common problem with the same symptoms, so I am guessing the same cause for your Vette.

I would check the VSS or the wiring too it. Could be partway burnt on the exhaust and not making a good connection.

Hi,

Before you start pulling things apart, check the filter plug behind the distributor. It happened to me on my 87. My mph & rpm were erratic on a trip. The plug was loose. I plugged it in tight and no more problems. Good Luck.
