Is being a pain in the ass haha.

Boss finally pissed me off to the point where I'm going to execute a dream my dad always had, to start a business doing nothing but HVAC repairs and maintenance, no shove down your throat sales, at a price everyone can afford.

I've been doing HVAC for 11 years, and knowing the markup on stuff makes me sick most days.

I don't need a state mechanical contractors license for this, the only thing I need that for is new installs of systems, and a couple specific things, in 1 specific county (they're pricks heh)

SO, I'm off trying to get this going...

But I need to form an LLC before I can get my business licenses in the 7 municipalities, and I need the LLC before I can get my workers comp exempt card, and my insurance..

I need the LLC to get an EIN to get a bank account...

So many hoops to jump through with a broken hand and still working full time...

Anyone incorporate before and have some tips?

kalifornia laws are much different from FL's.

Two points come to mind that make life easier.
- Find a good bookkeeper that is familiar with Quickbooks to keep your records and taxes straight.
- Once established find and join a local BNI group. http://bni.com/

Good Luck

great info on the BNI, I didn't even know about that

Will quickbooks work for my type of business?

Main thing I need to track is income/expenses and inventory for parts, contactors, capacitors, motors, tape, etc. etc.

Alright, I'm about to file my LLC, but I wanted to ask a quick favor from my friends regarding the name.

As I said, this will be an HVAC company, specializing in service as well as indoor air quality (UV lamps, whole house filtration and HEPA systems.. etc.)

My original name of choice is "Strictly Service Air Conditioning and Heating"

But, while that is my main goal, do you think that it will pigeon hole me out of doing air purification as well, or will that name, coupled with advertising of the various systems I will be selling/installing be good..

If not, any suggestions?

www.legalzoom.com for the registration. consider Delaware or Nevada for incorporation, much nicer on taxes.

oh, and all documents you create, spell right... nothing can ruin credibility faster than fast than poor spelling and/or grammar.

Good call on the spelling/grammar. I haven't stared so hard at the same 4 words before in my life, especially when the hand isn't helping the typing lol

Good luck, Rich. Find a good accountant and lawyer to help you out. I can help you with some basic questions as I used to do business bookkeeping, but I've been out of it for about 7 years.

Thanks Matthew!

I've been sitting here studying quickbooks for a couple days now trying to get it all in my head.

Gonna go to the bank today and set up a corporate account.

The main thing I'm lost on is doing the taxes, It's an LLC, of which I'm the only member, and the only employee.

Trying to find a decent merchant service now to do credit cards, and I've found this, which would be perfect since I work out in the field, but I still need a merchant account to link to it...

http://www.chargeanywheredirect.com/

Has a little bluetooth reader/printer to run cards over damn near any mobile phone.

I have an accountant do my taxes so that I don't have to worry about it.

I also recommend using a payroll service to manage wages, even if it's just you. They calculate and submit your taxes. I use www.SurePayroll.com. Super easy, I highly recommend them. I don't mind paying the service fee for the peace of mind that it's done right.

Little update, LLC is done, FEIN is done, Workers Comp is done, checking account is done.

Talked to a guy from my bank about their merchant services, of which they offer a wireless terminal that I'm gonna go with in a couple weeks when I'm ready to run my first calls.

Gotta talk to Bright House about a toll free #.

I'm talking to a guy about a van that's in Ft. Lauderdale.

I'm in need of a graphic artist for a logo, and to design the lettering I want on the van.

And I'm fighting with Office Access to do the layout I want, anyone have experience with Access that could maybe help based on a screen shot?
