Gurus need some advice! Need to replace valve cover gaskets on the 87. I noticed that Roller Rockers seem to be a hot item. Whats a good brand?, what ratio? is it worth it? do I need new rods? adjustment procedure and will stock valve cover work. Since the valve covers are off I might consider upgrade. Just a thought!

Scorpion makes a really good rocker and it's made in the USA. Scorpion is my first choice in a stud mount rocker. I only use something different if the customer insist. People make a big deal about rockers and everybody has their favorites but any quality rocker will live the life of the engine on a mild hyd cam.

Stock ratio is 1.5 but people like to use 1.6 ratio for more lift. You'll have to make sure your valve springs will handle the extra lift.

On a stock engine gains will be minimal... but Rome wasn't built in a day and you have to start somewhere. Roller rockers a cheap upgrade (comparativley) and easy to do yourself.

When you change any part of the valve train you really should check your geometry to be 100% sure your pushrods are the correct length. Most of the time your going to need new ones when you change the rocker arm type/ratio.

I use the I/O (Intake Open) E/C (Exhaust Close) method of valve adjustment. Here are a couple of write ups explaining it.

I like to run anywhere between 1/4 turn and 1/2 turn pre load on normal hyd lifters.

Stock Corvette V/C will normally work if you remove the "drip tabs".

Comp Cams pro mags are pretty popular. I like the idea of steel, less wear, and smaller with more clearance and can get just as low inertia as aluminum.

Scorpions: 1.7 ratio, 7/16", NON-Self Aligning on my 388 CID and 1.7/1.65 ratio, 7/16" NON-Self Aligning Full RRs on my son's. Both cars are 96 LT1 Vettes.

They are extremely quiet. Noise is somethning that many don't factor in when choosing their brand. Then comes the torrid of posts about how noisey their, for example, Pro Mags are.
