I just joined SCCA because I want to begin participating in their Solo events here in the Washington DC Region during the spring and they will soon be offering subscription registrations for next season.

When I started going through their rulebook trying to define classification for my car I almost flipped trying to figure out their classification schema. I thought NCCC was bad at classifying. Anyhow the classification is probably great, its just communicating that information to me that I'm having trouble with.

Any of you SCCA Corvette drivers know of a simple classification table or something like that. I know that NCCC has a table that lists all the classes and what is allowed and what is not allowed.

For NCCC my car is Group 3ME, primarily due to engine modifications. However when looking at the SCCA stuff it was difficult to even figure out where a Corvette fits into the whole scheme.

As far as this goes I'd say SM ... Street Modified.

There are also the stock catagories but your not running stock. A stock C4 runs in A Stock.

I only did a few SCCA events. As a novice I was getting my ass handed to me. When I went to Porsche Club of America (PCA) I took a training class with instructors. I still suck but I have a hell of a good time. I can run my C4 or 911 with PCA. C4's have won national championchips in SCCA National Competition.

Great Tommy, thanks. Now I can back to the rule book and make sense of that now that I have it narrowed down to Street Modified.

Has anyone ever questioned your engine mods?

Although sometimes, at least at our autocross events. I typically have a smaller field in the Group3 class because not many guys really have internal engine work or suspension modifications. The competition in the stock classes seems to be pretty tough. I have no idea what to expect of SCCA though since there are like 2000 members just in the Wash DC region.

Doh! .... It says SSM but ax some of these other guys with mods. List your general upcoming mods to get a better handle on it.

Do, If you want, give me the specs, year, etc. and the mods you're planning to run.

We (Reno Region) have a large autoX group, like enough cars that our events are 2 days. 4 or 5 C4's running.

I can post on our website and get some feedback on your class.

No one has ever questioned it, probably because I am not competetive in my class. The Region MASTER driver is in my class, with a 240Z, and he, his wife and daughter all drive it in that class. He is the SCCA Chief and is a phenomenal driver.
So, I dont think it matters about my mods, LOL.
First day i was there I was ASP, but by the end of the Day theyy had me reclassed.

Bill here a few of the things that matter to the classifications.

----------------------------------------------

Tires and wheels -- Rear wheels are larger than factory 10.5" factory wheels were 9.5" wide.
with 315 tires.

Engine -- more than .020 overbore
383 Displacement
Ported Heads - although they are stock heads
Port matched heads & intake greater than 1/4 into runner
larger than stock Cam
Larger throttle body
higher output Fuel Injectors
headers
Non-stock Pistons and rotating assy.

Drivetrain - lower rear gears

Some classes call foul on the Big Mouth Air Dam because its a non-stock air dam. I have no idea about SCCA

Currently the suspension is all stock and will stay that way until I have the money to change to a better system.

Thanks - Me

One reply, should be some more.
The engine work limits him to SSM, XP, and CM (I think; not positive if the Corvette has a Modified class, but I would guess it does). The air dam may or may not be legal in one or more of those classes, but it's probably okay.

I was in SM2 just because of brakes. Kinda stupid as those don't do squat on a small auto-x course where heat isn't an issue.

Based on your mods you listed, the 383 alone puts you into SSM. That is what I run in with a similarly prepped car here in the Southeast. Good Luck !
