Checking one off the bucket list this year.

Gonna take the wifey to see the 100th Indy 500.
I'll be flying in and out, probably getting a rent car too.

Looking for suggestions as to good areas or places to stay.

It gets really busy down there around race time and I know stuff books up quick. My uncle lives there so I'll shoot him an email and ask him.

It also looks like the website has some info and a facebook page if you are on there. People can always give suggestions there.

I wouldn't know but it's a blast. I was very lucky when I went (5 times), my buddie's parents were friends with the USAC officials. People around the track rent out their back yards for camping. All 5 years, I camped in a backyard right across the street from the track, about a hundred yard walk to the gate.

It depends how long you'll be there but, Indy Raceway Park usually has some races going on Friday nite.

This was my uncle's response (they have been to the races before, mind you):

"I would stay downtown, skip the rental car and take the shuttle bus to the track the day of the race.

Driving to the speedway just sucks.

We took the shuttle from the airport."

Hope that helps.

Yeah I was thinking we'd fly in weds for a few days of museum touring, walk the paddocks and catch the 100 miler on fri. Then fly out monday.

Dont want to be too far from the track but sometimes it helps to get out a ways for better prices. Just dont want to end up up in the ghetto.

Been to three F1 races, but not Indy as of yet.

Hit the Museum if you can.

Usually NOT open on race day
I stopped in on my way back from SoCal

I have not attended the race in 6 years, a B&B might be the only thing available. Most hotels and motels are booked years in advance. There is a B&B in Zionsville that is about 10 minutes from the track. Great place/plus Zionsville is a shopping mecca for women, antiques, boutiques, a few few sports bars.
