Anyone know much about these? My sister wants one, a 2010 or 2011, slightly used or new. She's looking at the 4x4 option, unknown if 4 cyl or 6 cyl. It will be in NYC, mostly parked but driven on weekends to the outer burbs and for light city driving. Might haul some small stuff in the trunk, nothing heavy, no towing. My buddy has a 2010 and loves it. I think it's a nice looking truck and a good midsize. Anyone have any experience?

Not too many complaints online. Found a bit about trans noise, supposed to be corrected on later 2011s. Also some trans recalls, but seems to be affected when flat towing the suv. Gas mileage is supposedly not close to advertised. Other than that, pretty good reviews.

Comments?

I have heard nothing bad... I would check consumer reports. I do know that new Fords are actually pretty well put together cars.

I would avoid the 4 cycl, we looked at them, they seem much more noisy then the 6, and there really is not a huge difference in MPG's. I would reccomend the 4x4, ours is FWD, it works ok, but the 6 has enough torque that it spins the wheels easily so for snow and wet conditions the 4x4 would work much better.. over all we like our '09... the trans thing though it does shift harsh at times, very intermittently, it has already been back to the dealer for a flash update for the trans, which did not really help the problem...

The vehicle before my wifes Fusion was an Escape with the 3.0 liter V6 Duratec Engine. Put 83k trouble free miles on in some pretty bad winters. Worked great. Auto 4x4 drive worked great, mileage was good! We traded an Explorer for it.

There's a guy here at work that has one. He doesn't really take care of it and had to have the motor replaced. I think they are a good mid-size SUV. I like the Mazda Tributes too.

We rented one in FL last month. I don't know if it was the V6 or an I4, but it was FWD only. Very QUIET! I mean SILENT inside. I could not believe how quiet it was inside. Like a cacoon.

It rode very nicely and handled fairly ok. I would say back seat space is somewhat tight.

Overall, we liked it. Averaged about 24mpg for our week of city/freeway/urban driving.

My wife bought an 08 new from the dealer. She loves it. It's been a good car. It's actually a rebadged Mazada Tribute.

Two suggestions:
Go with the 6 cylinder. The 4 is great for around town, but if you go on a trip, and go through the mountains in Virginia, it struggles. The gas mileage isn't that much different, if she had it to do over, she'd get the 6. But the 4 isn't bad.

Get the leather seats. I don't know what Ford/Mazda was thinking, but the cloth seats stain if you look at them too long. Seriously, water will stain the cloth seats.

Other than that, it's a good car, I like driving it.
