Where is the best place to go through the firewall with the constant 12v cable? I have the battery out and I don't see a place to slide anything through. I've always been able to slide these through existing grommets next to factory wires. No luck so far with this 93 C4.

I had to run one wire for my alarm siren (behind the batt) and didn't want to drill or contort myself looking for a grommet.
I just took an ice pic and pit a small hole in the accordion that houses the door wiring. I had to take a stiff piece and push it thru the hole in the accordion and into the cab (because the hole was small). Then, taped the wire from the siren to the stiff piece and pulled it into the cab. Since the hole in that rubber was small, it sealed around the wire.
Others may do it differently but this worked well for me.

I don't think you'll be able to fit a power wire through the accordion in the door and back into the cab.

I have a small hole drilled in the firewall with a grommet in it. You probably won't have much luck otherwise. What gauge wire are you using and what amp?

Respectfully, Matt, I could fit a battery cable thru there but it wouldn't bend well.
I see no problem with a 12awg., I happened to use a 16 but it will work.

It's always worth a shot, Bill. I think the firewall is just easier, I guess.

Yea, I looked at doing the firewall. When I got inside the car looking at the insulation,etc. were I would have put the hole and grommet, it just looked like a pia. Running the wire the way I did took about 5 min.
If I had another wire to run, I'd probably do the same thing. If I had more than one or two, I'd go thru the FW.

I'm using 8 gauge wire and the amp is an Alpine PDX F4.

8 gauge, I think the firewall is the only viable option.

Thanks Matt, I found a spot to drill through.... right behind the little fuse box. I will take some photos and post when it's all done.

Please do post some pics! I had bought a PDX 4.100 a couple years back. Where are you mounting yours?

The amp will go in the right storage bin. Exactly how I don't know yet.

I don't know what the amp dimensions are but, I have a 6 disc CD changer in that bin and still have a good bit of room left for storage.

You can also try behind the passenger seat. I have mine mounted against the rear wall under the hatch release area.

I worry about amps in the storage bin... no air flow at all.

When I installed my amp, I used 4 gauge, so yes, a hole drilled was the solution. However, 1992/93 Vette's don't have the extra fuse panel, so it wasn't so much of an issue. I drilled from the outside in, ran the wire (it fit nicely under the conduit on the drivers side rocker panel) and hooked up accordingly.

As for ground, I ran it straight back to the battery. So there are two 4 gauge wires running under the left rocker, through the hole, and to the battery.

To protect the wire, I wrapped them with cold fusion tape, and then filled in the hole with RTV. No leaks, no water, no smells and no shorts!

Thanks for all the input guys. The amp's dimensions are: 10-1/8"W x 2"H x 8-9/16"D. It's a class D amp that can be stacked so heat is not a major concern here... not losing any cargo space is the big concern for me. There is plenty of room in the bin but.... it's mostly thin fiberglass so that throws a little wrinkle in the mounting. I thought of the area behind the passenger seat but soon realized that seat (and mine too for that matter) is usually within 1/2 in of the wall or even touching.

I included a couple pics of the power wire through the firewall.

yea, that's about where mine is... Nice install!!!

Put a fuse on the end before the battery terminal. If it eats through, it would short out anything (potentially).

If you do decide to use the bin, here's my Alpine changer in the bin. It's 3" thick, still a lot of room.

You should always locate your fuse on the hot side within 12" of the battery.

The amp is finally in! The rear speakers came alive now I need to figure out something for the front. I have 4 or 5 different things I'm thinking of for the front.... it might take a while.

Here is a list of what's installed at the moment:

* Head unit: JVC KW-XR810
* Front spkrs: Infinity Kappa 42.9i (temporary)
* Rear spkrs: Infinity Kappa 692.9i
* Amp: Alpine PDX-F4 (100 w/ch. RMS)

Here are a few pictures as promised.

The amber color on the HU actually matches the factory lighting much better than the photo shows. I cut the "fins" out of the console and lined it with felt/carpet.

Pictures look good. Headunit looks almost stock and the storage bin seems to be the perfect fit, too. But you forgot a picture of your cd:
