I was just perusing the North East Regional Section of CF because my Car show is posted there. I just have to rant here about what is over there because I don't want to get involved and I'd probably tell the guy he is a complete butt head! I hope he's not one of our guys.... Oh well! It is what it is.

He got pulled over in NJ for not having a front plate and there are a lot of people over there bashing the Trooper for ticketing the guy. Well, I guess I should tell the whole story, but apparently his tag was there, just flipped under the bumper and out of sight. He has one of the hideaway plate brackets. He also tried to butter up the Trooper by handing him some PBR Cards which show he is buddies with the NYPD, but apparently that backfired on him.

Am I being to harsh? Do you think he should have had the plate properly displayed?

Question - was the car registered in the state ticketed?

Many states (DE, FL, for example) don't have front plates. And even if he was driving a car without front plates, that should have, he cannot be ticketed in another state for that violation.

Meaning, I have CA plate, I am required to run a front plate. But lets say I go to NV, which also has a front plate law, and remove my CA front plate, I don't honestly believe they can ticket me for that.

Otherwise, he is a dick for trying to bribe or influence a police officer, which can only piss them off.

Personally, I don't like the front plate law. It's an expense - making a 2nd plate - with only minimal return re: public safety. Has anyone ever seen a front plate after driving any distance in bad weather?

I am opposed to the law as well and have tried to get it repealed here in MD, but the machine is pretty big.

I think this guy also lived in NJ and was ticketed in NJ. I use a front plate now, but went without for years. If I got ticketed for not having it, I'd just suck it up and pay the fine and not bitch about it or pass the fault off to the Trooper.

My 2 cents

We have a front plate law and like Kansas does not. If I don't run one in Nebr and get pulled over likely I will get a fixit ticket depending on the mood of the officer. He has the right to ticket me if he wants. It is the law to run both plates. Even if I have it with me in the car makes no difference it has to be displayed.

If I have Nebr plates and I go to Kansas and I get picked up for speeding and only have one plate I doubt the officer will give a hoot about that since he is going to write me up for 98 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Not that that has ever happened to me.........(what no warning ticket?)

I did get a warning for not having a front plate on bastet44's Vette a few years back. Apparently, LAX police are the only ones who really care...

When I moved here I had DE tags, and there was nothing they could do... heh heh heh.

It's too bad he didn't get off with a warning since his bracket was just in the down position, but I imagine they're looking for revenue wherever they can get it nowadays.
