I asked a simple but serious question
on the "other" forum and my thread
got locked! I was wondering why I
started receiving an
abnormal amout of spam that started
shortly before the "personal" ads
started on the forum. I was wondering
if the hacker who had inserted these
ads in place of the one that was
supposed to be there could have
possibly have gotten our info too.
Could any body give me an answer here?
I have no idea why I started getting this
crap mail all of a sudden. The few answers
I did manage to get before the lock
was showing that some others were
having the same problem. Dang, they're
all a little testical over there.

I saw that......

I really don't think it's a hacker though.
I think the forum just sold "blank" ad space to google.
It's Google that is putting up the ads, and the forum has no control over what is advertised.

I do not know. I was banned before those ads started to appear, and with my spam box, I really don't notice a change in volume.

It is an interesting question, tho... as I understand it, those ads were not hacks, but the result of Googles own ad cycles.

What worries me is the way
they locked the thread, it's
almost as if I hit a sore spot.

There are countless things that get your email on spam lists beyond your control. As said, those are just google ads and are unrelated.

It's pretty normal these days to get spam for viagra, porno, stock advice, refinancing, etc. Even just opening those emails can confirm your address and get you more of them. This is a problem for outlook express which opens email automatically by default.

I had an email account that used to get all that, I quit using it for over a year, and it's now clean again.

Unless you know who the email is from delete them...Some fo the spam ones are cleverly advertised.

I noticed on my Yahoo email this morning there are the same exact dating ads on there as on the cf. lol

I have the Yahoo spam blocker and it works very well. I used to empty the bulk mail folder every day but lately I've been waiting until the count reaches 1,000, then zap them all at once. Just feels good.
