It doesn't give a reason?

It may be the arcade or "games".

Maybe your IT Admin was monitoring your surfing habits, and found out you were not getting any work done.

Well hopefully guys, when the new software gets up, it won't be an issue. Some stuff is blocked from my work too, but I bring my personal laptop and it doesn't block anything across a wireless connection.

One thing to remember, is some companies do monitor what sites you go too. Just as we've seen over at another forum, some IT Admins become over eager in there blocking of things THEY think you shouldn't be doing.

Also, most larger companies have hardware firewalls with a subscription service. So, it may not actually be your company doing the blocking. It's the subscription service they buy for their firewall.

But they can manually add "approved" sites so they won't be blocked. Make friends with one of the IT guys and see if they can put a firewall rule in place that won't block it.

Well, that was an eye-opener.........

I sure as hell wouldn't pay just to get an address for a pen pal. And I sure wouldn't want one of them to know how to locate me.

When I was doing my IT stint in Corporate America, I used to ask the users who were having Internet connectivity issues to try bringing up that site. Everybody loved it. A few of the women asked if there was menbehindbars.com site...

That's the way it's done nowadays...

I don't understand certain things, though. My company initially blocked all sports sites, then financial stuff (online trading at work is a no-no). They add stuff here and there, like now photobucket is off limits.

However, eBay is still allowed. Seems kind of dumb.

We got lucky at our place, and the Division manager that is over MIS (we are just one group in a larger group under him), is an avid sports fan. He sent out the command to unblock the Fantasy Football sites.

Oh yeah, and eBay too!
We are pretty lucky though. I can get to most anything I need too. I have seen a few times that even though I could get to a site, clicking on certain links within that site (A thread in off-topic for instance) would bring up the "Access Denied" page from our firewall.
