Check out this video. I tailed a good buddy of mine around the track last weekend to get some video for him. He is an Alfa Romeo freak (although I think he prefers the term "Alfa nut"). He tracks this one (daily driver) while his other one is getting caged. This is a 1970's Alfa something or other on ridiculously bad street tires and stock everything else. He's having a ball in a car that might qualify for mother waddles. In the second lap you could fit a whole 'nother car in between the tires and fenders on some of the left handers.

So before someone asks you to go to the track and you don't becasue you have to upgrade your brakes or your turbo or your whatever, think of this guy and how much fun he's having...

The 928 shouild be done end of next month or so. I'm seriously considering tracking the 83 911 and 79 928 with the local PCA drivers ed experience. They do Homestead, Sebring and Palm Beach formerly known as Moroso West Palm Beach. We would have jumped in years ago but her 87 Cabriolet required a cage. The wife didn't want to do it. Either way, we'll still be doing some kiddie stuff at the autocross. The DE's for both of us can add up $800 to $1000. Autocross costs as a whopping $30 each. We can do it if we want to end up like all the other track rats.

70% of the first timers don't even check their tire pressure.

They check mine every time I bring it in for an oil change. On my Porsches that's annually. For that matter the Vettes too. They all average less than 1500 miles per year each.

Be glad you're not into racing, the top Formula Ford drivers spend thet much every race just for tires.

Uaually I don't have the time. I try to close tech at 9:00 and have to be in the student's car at 9:10

Hardly have time to take a wizz.

Those old GTV-6's can handle, yo. Well balanced little cars.

I do need to replace the rear bearings on mine... they are TOAST.

Very cool video! Looks like a lovely day!

Not sure what you based those numbers on.

$50 for an auto-x down here without membership.
$180 for HPDE

The HPDE also burns a half tank of gas and murders the tires much more, but that's because you're doing the equivalent of 25 auto-x events in that same time period.

I try to track my students down between the all hands meeting and their first classroom session cause I won't sit in the right seat until they can tell me thier tire pressure, what kind of tires, what the lug nuts are torqued too and what brake pads they have on thier car.
If they don't know I'll break out my tire gage and torque wrench.
