I always felt that GM missed the boat in the 80s... My idea was to take the IROC Z, put the 1LE suspension under it, and a modified Quad-4 with a 5spd. M3 killer. Light, quick, excellent handling.

GM probably didn't miss a boat with a turbo four F-body... GM management probably saw how the turbo american pony car didn't translate into huge sale numbers for Ford.... the SVO was a better car than the Mustang GT however, folks bought the GT....
Now if GM would have used more of the excellent buick turbo 6.......... turbo 6 in a C4 back in 84 L98...hmmmmmm

And the V6 wasn't the same as used in the GN... because of engine compartment issues, the Buick V6 had to use different heads to fit. I suspect that on the street it didn't make much difference, but for tuning...

The Turbo TA was the fastest thing on the road at that time - 0-60 in like 4.9 seconds. Buick guys got a laugh that Pontiac needed their engine... and Pontiac guys weren't laughing.

The deal breaker for an older guy like me is always how they sound......Nothing sounds like a V8....and sound is a big part of the expieriance for me......Yes I have a VTwin and no I wouldn't own a VRod even if it will run rings around my Twin Cam.......it's gotta sound right for me to fully enjoy it.......thats just me.

I like all sorts of engine sounds... A thumping V8... A ripping V12... even the whoosh of a turbo 4 has its appeal.

Perhaps when we have a mis-matched soundtrack. Perhaps that's the problem... no thump where we expect thump. A rip when we expect a whoosh... hard to tell.

i was always partial to the 3.8 supercharged GTP's. owned three of them. what amazed me was 300 bucks and it was a really powerful motor. you change the pully and 50 more horses were under your foot. i wonder if anybody has ever tried to put one in a c4. horsepower to weight would be really good. just a thought. with the slp big mouth exhaust it sounded really good. not ricey at all. not sure anybody has ever made a rear drive tranny that would bolt up to that motor though. if anybody knows of a tranny that will let me know because i know where there is a 85 for sell really cheap. that would be a good over the winter project.

There are a handful of C4 V6 turbo racers... the SC? Not sure. I don't know the differences in the block to go from sidewinder to north/south.
