I have done a few searches for an Engine bolt set with all the (bolts nuts and screws) needed to put together an engine. I havent had any luck, i know they sell the interior sets bc i already restored that section of the car.
Am i looking in the wrong places or do i need to paint the ones i have.
Any suggestions always appreciated.

Every bolt on my engine...that's visible anyway, is a stainless Allen head bolt.

I started with a basic SBC 350 bolt kit, and I pieced the rest together almost one at a time. I just simply couldn't find the kind of kit to do it all at once.

The issue is that it's a lot of work to put together a single engine kit...then factor in all the changes year to year, model to model, trim levels...it would be very difficult for someone to sell kits for something specific like an '85 Vette.

Thanks and your right that makes alot of sense. So my best bet is to make a day out of it and go to local hardware store and match them up with stainless bolts. or if you could give me a link for the Maximum bolt set that would start me out with a jumpstart. like you mentioned you did.

I i want to go back with the best possible and something that looks good.

To start, call the folks at Alloy Boltz, 813-645-3185. They sell kits on Ebay and that's where I got my first kit. Tell them what you have and they'll set you up with the best kit that fits your needs.

Also, finding certain sizes at hardware stores is tricky. Sometimes I had to call them and order one or two bolts to fit my specific needs. Not a fast process...but the end result was exactly what I wanted.

Depending where you live, check out a Fastenal store. The only problem, they deal in bulk.

I am lucky here in SoCal. I have a local hardware store that has everything.

Another source is McMaster-Carr. They are THE hardware superstore.

There are quite a few on the engine that are one-offs designed specifically for the C4, but you can probably find a work around in these areas.

Mcmaster carr is great, but you have to buy like 50 of each. Sometimes its actually cheaper to buy the more expensive bolts, or flange bolts, because they sell in smaller quantities.

Stainless bolts suck. They are weaker and more prone to cross threading or snapping and very hard to find flange bolts for. They are ok in some areas, but don't limit yourself.

Stick with the grade 8 stuff, it holds up to the heat and corrosion well.

If you are using stainless fasteners you need to consider the galling or siezing capabilities. At work we have this problem with steel and aluminum. Here is an article.

yes. electrolysis is a real problem with stainless to aluminum.

I don't use stainless on structural areas. And when I do use it into aluminum, a little bit of anti-seize will help a lot.

I used allens on my intake, and yes, they are stainless, but in that case, there isn't much to fret about. And a touch of anti-seize, and take about 5 lbs off the torque wrench and you should be ok.

I hate the smell of antisieze.

But I don't get it on my fingers anymore - switched to the Loctite stick.
Same with thread locker.
