good question...
To remove the mirror assembly, you take the door panel off, remove the bolts from the inside, disconnect the wiring and then you are ready to work on the mirror. After that? not so sure... |

I remembering reading that if the mirrors are tilted as far down as the motors will go you can access some mounting screws that will release the mirror and allow access to the motor.

Roll window down, remove door trim panel and water deflector. Disconnect neg batt terminal. Unfasten clips holding electrical wiring to the door. Remove 2 attaching nuts, then remove mirror from vette. Motor not shown in explosion drawing, so it must be in the mirror. |

Depends on what you're trying to do but you can get to all the internals by just popping the glass out. Very easy.

If you want to work on the motors you certainly don't want to remove the mirror assembly from the door unless you also want to fabricate a temporary wiring harness as well.

When I fixed my driver side mirror, it was not the motor but the connector in the door; easy, free fix by cleaning the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. It had been working in only one direction.

+1 You just need to tilt the mirror enough so that you can get ahold of both sides, then carefully pull it until it pops free. |

BillH was right. They just pop out. All the internals were right there and accessible. Drivers side done-now on to the passenger side...
