Getting ready to attend the Vettes 4 Vets event at Talladega this May and was looking for the right trailer to haul the Vette down for the event. It will also serve to get my Jeep to the trails, so I don't have to worry about breaking it. I found a trailer that fit the bill! On the link, look at the trailer at the very bottom (not mine, but one just like it).

It is a Big Tex 70DM 18 foot trailer with diamond plate 1/8" steel floor, 3x2 square tube chassis, electric brakes, LED lights, diamond plate aluminum rock shield, removable diamond plate aluminum fenders, 5' ramps, and recessed "D" rings to tie down the vehicle.

Now for the hard part, anyone ever towed a C5 Z06? I'm looking at using "T" retainers. Anyone have experience using them? The Jeep will be easy, just strap the axles, but I'll need to plan a bit more for the Z.

T's are the way to go with a C5,

I know several people who do it that way, really works out nice.
They're down low, so they're easy to get at and the strap don't get caught on anything.

my C4 not so much.

Basically everyone on CF suggested staping thru the wheels.

Nice, Big Tex has been around forever, good quality compared to some of the junk that's being sold today.

T-Hooks are what GM uses to ship the cars, really easy to pop in. The guys who race and tow a lot use them.
I'm not a fan of thru the wheels but over the wheels with a net works well (we haul the open wheel cars this way).
Definately don't hook to the suspension.

Get good straps, at least 7,500 lb. rated.

You can probably tow without a load distributing hitch since it's an open trailer, depends on what you're towing with.

Tongue weight & sway - the tongue weight really affects sway, it should be 10-15% of the total weight up to the max rating on the hitch (trailer and tow vechile).
We cured sway on one trailer just by moving the car 1 foot forward on the trailer.

Thats a nice trailer.

I agree with Bill that depending on what your towing with no weight distribution hitch needed.... I don't use one and tow my 18ft open trailer loaded using my 2003 Avalanche with no problems.

I have strapped my 92 thru the wheels a number of times but after a while the strap rubs the powder coating off the wheels and feeding the hooks thru will scratch them up... not a big deal on a track car but everytime I look at my A-Molds I feel bad....

If I had a C-5 I would definatly go the T-Hook route.

Yea, the rubbing on the wheels is why I'm not fond of thru the wheels.

Also, set the trailer up (fully loaded) level with the tow vechile. Towing with the tongue too high or too low will affect your brake performance.

I run mine through the wheels

I need to keep an eye on the straps as the edges are rather sharp.

The guys on CF use a soft towel between the straps and the wheels for just that reason. Personally I would use the factory tie down points on a C4, not sure about the C5.

Used the factory tie downs before

They're in a bad spot.

Can't do it now, new oil lines are in the way.
