The restarted... figure that one out.

It quit, sat for a few, restarted and limped home.

I don't know what is up, really. I am thinking fuel filter, so that gets done first.

No SES light, but I do need to read codes.

1999 A4/2wd/350 with the spider thing for injection...

I am afraid of the fuel pump... only because it requires dropping the damned tank.

Fuel tank isn't THAT bad to drop...a little more so on a Sub as it is bigger, but if you don't have much fuel in it, it isn't bad.

I was looking at the instructions and it doesn't look bad, either... just don't want it full!! 44 gallons is HEAVY!!!

The truck has 119k on it... I was suspecting the pump, too... but wanted to start simple.

I can really hear it whistle...

No... ACDelco or Delphi?

Delphi claims OEM... and might be considering they are a spin off of GM...

Opinions?

When I replaced the FP in my 99 Silverado, I went with Delphi as the parts guys told me it was the best one they had.

There is nothing to describe the feeling you get after reading the display on a 40 gallon fill up.

I am keeping gas fills at 5 gallons at a time for right now!

The thing still has 15-20 in it... so it's gonna require a drive down.

I still haven't pulled codes... but considering the SES hasn't lit yet, it has the classic smell of a failing fuel pump.

I replaced the filter... bitch that was... there is a plastic bracket that the filter slips into (same filter as used on the C4). This plastic bracket also holds brake lines!!! So this thing is really well wedged in there.

But there was a visible lack of pressure when I relieved the fittings on the filter. I expected a spritz, I got a dribble... pump failing...

I just talked to Chris at Superior... will be ordering one up here later, just need the VIN to get the right one.

Speaking of fuel systems....has anybody heard if they are going to get rid of the 2 tank system on the C5's and 6's for the new C7? I hope so...I hope they figured out how to get it all in one tank somehow.....I haven't seen anything on this yet....not trying to steal your thread Andy, just wondering....

not yet... it's ODBII and I need to download the BINs from TunerCat...

I don't think it's major... no SES light lit during the problems... and low fuel pressure at the filter is pretty damning... especially when you take into consideration that I had just shut the truck down, and only removed the cap to vent pressure. I would expected more at the lines.

Had to replace the fuel pump in my truck last year. 97 Sierra 350. Wasn't that bad really. I bought a Delphi FP also and so far no problems. The touchiest part of the whole operation is the fuel filter sock that goes on the suction side (and in the tank)of the FP. Didn't match OEM sock.

Also, floor jack was great in helping to lower the tank.

Frank - it wasn't bad... but it was a 44 gallon tank, 2/3rds full. So I man handled it with various jacks and such.

The pump is new and the truck is running GREAT.

I need to trust my instincts, the old pump was whining like a 13 year old... the new one? Quite as a church mouse.
