nbergma Warning "dings" when I open the door on my C6

This just started happening this past weekend. The car wasn't doing this prior to that. Here are the details.

When I turn off the car and open the door, the car starts doing "ding ding ding ding" audible alerts about once per second until I shut the door. I had other cars (not Corvettes) do that if you open the door with the ignition switched off and the headlights are turned on to warn you so you will turn off the headlights before the battery goes dead. That was my first thought when I heard it in my C6 but my headlamp switch was in the Auto position like I almost always have it and the headlamps were not on.

Does anyone have any idea why it started doing this all of a sudden? It may be coincidence, but maybe not so I'll mention it. Just a few minutes before it started doing this, my wife was adjusting the sun visor on the passenger side when the post on the right side of the visor fell right out of the housing and was kind of dangling there in my wife's hands with all the wires hanging down that power the vanity mirror etc. She was able to push the post back up into the housing and pushed the flat plate back up flush with the bottom of the housing. (I'm not sure the visor is really "fixed." Seems like a poor, cheap-o design to me). Shortly after that when we stopped and I opened my door, the dinging started.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Maybe a wire in that visor got pinched and is causing a short somewhere, or is causing the light to stay on? Does the visor light shut off properly?

Maybe Marcus or someone else with a C6 can turn on a vanity light and see if it causes the dinging.

Even if the vanity lamp is left on the computer will shut it down in 15 minutes if it is left on...I will go try it though and see if I can get dingy....

this is a silly thought... but check the owners manual, and also check the DIC...

I know on the later cars, it will report why something is happening.

They are so damned smart these days... but that smart also equates to an element of fragility.

On the 05, it will do this if the car is not in Reverse, if it is a stick

I'm betting the system thinks the fob is being left in the car.

Figured this out. Apparently I was pressing the Accessories side of the off switch instead of the Off side. When the car is in Accessories mode and you open the door, guess what? Ding, ding, ding...

Sigh.

Thanks to all who replied.

Thanks for the update - I'll have to make sure we're not doing this ...

Not sure if the visor thing is like C5's or not but they are removed by inserting a screw driver into a slot in the plastic ring and rotating the entire thing to lock it into place. I'm guessing it somehow got released when it came out.
