Well, I don't think you're going to like this but according to the C4 parts microfiche, it doesn't have a number as it's considered a part of the spring assembly along with the upper and lower retainers. From the illustration, it's called a spring cushion. There are actually two different springs, the FE7 (BMH code) #14045786 and non FE7 (BMF) #14045785, both discontinued. As for a source for those parts, I couldn't tell you. Sorry...

You need to buy the whole spring. BMF is the base 84 suspension, BMH is the Z51.

If its got to the stage that the cusions are gone, the spring is probably past its service life.

I found a poly spring pad set from Prothane, their part number 7-2013, I am not 100% sure it is what you need but the link below has their contact information, send them an e-mail or call, hope that helps.

http://www.prothane.com/pages/contactus.html

If you do need the rear spring I have a used one in great condition including the pads from a 90 ZR1 code NYR, I'll take $75 plus shipping, PM if interested.

Which is a bargain price. All C4 Corvette rear springs are fully interchangable with each other, from 84-96 the same design is used.

The pads appear to be epoxied on my spring or I would offer them separately, I don't want to risk damaging the spring to remove, sorry.

True, but the spring rates vary quite a bit, with the 84 being one of the stiffest (read harsh riding) of the bunch.

That will work if you want that '84 to ride like a Caddie.

The center spring insulator is (was) GM number 14076181. It fits all 1984 - 1989, regardless of which suspension. Try HERE

That's mostly because toptech is extremely helpful...I've purchased parts from him in the past over on CF.

So how much of that rear axle assembly is left?

Wont make much difference really, when i went to the BMF in the rear of my 94 instead of the stock FE1 94 spring (which is NYR), the ride was only very slightly stiffer, barely even noticable. The wheel rate of the BMF rear spring is only 28.6 N/mm, and the wheel rate from a 90 ZR1 rear spring is 25.7 N/mm so there isnt much difference at all.

If it was an FE1b from 95 or FE1 from 96, then it would be soft, @ 18 N/mm

Recived the spring purchased from Toptechx6 today. What a difference in springs, WOW what a difference, you can see diff in thickness at various areas but the biggest is when it is set on bench arch up and measure from horiz surface to top of spring the 90 spring measures 8" the 84 is 5". I think my 84 spring was fatigued, I know there are no mearsurements to determine life of spring but this is radical difference. Craig

Are you sure it won't make much difference in ride? Where are you getting your specs? My 1984 Corvette Specification manual shows the standard suspension, to have a spring rate of 38.4 N/mm (219 lb/in) at the wheel. The FE7 suspension used on the Z51 shows to have a wheel rate of 46.9 N/mm (262.0 lb/in). If your 25.7 N/mm is accurate, that represents only about 75% of the spring rate of the spring being removed. One might notice such a difference. It may be a welcome change, but it ought to be noticeable.

I'm guessing that a lot of the difference in the arch is so that the much stiffer 1984 spring will have a proper ride height. The weight of the rear of the car will straighten out the higher arch of the weaker spring more than it did with the '84 spring. Was the rear of the car dragging it's tail?

Happy to hear you received the spring, like the others I look forward to hearing a report on how the car rides after installation.
I agree with CFI-EFi's analysis of the arch. Based on what I've heard about 84 springs, I would certainly expect the car to ride softer, just hope that is what you like and that it has no adverse affect on handling. Thanks again for the purchase.

CFI-EFI i have a suspension chart here that has that on it, i dont remember where i got it from, ive had it alot of years now. Ill email it to you in a few minutes mate.

In all honesty, there was very little change in stiffness between the FE1 94 stock spring and the BMF i put in there. BMF was only used in 84 FE1s as far as i know.

The change it made on my FE1 87 was more noticable, and it dropped the arse end of that car by about 1.5 inches. The rear spring in an 87 is quite soft and has a big arc.

The ride height on my 94 dropped about 1 inch due to the arc difference, which is very normal in all Corvette springs, very few of them will arc the same as another spring of a differing code.

The ride in my 94 is pretty firm, but i wouldnt say its harsh at all, and i wouldnt say it was soft before the change either.

Installing 90 rear spring in 84 but have problem. removed spacers and tshims to place on new spring, The rubber glued to the spring when measured on spring is 2" on 84 and 13/4" on 90 spring so w/ all plates , spacers in place when bracket tight to diff we have a gap. do I make new plates or spacers, ? do I add to top or bottom of setup. I can only speak for my own car Craig, but I seem to recall all spacers being on top of the spring. Hopefully someone else will chime in to clarify.
I have spacers if you need them, sorry it didn't occur to me to send some with the spring. I'm shipping some calipers tomorrow so I'll be at the post office, I'll get some in the mail hope that helps.

I found a chart in my 93 FSM, section 3D, that indicates how many spacers to use above and below by part number matched to the spring. I don't remember seeing a part number on the spacers however so I don't know how to relate the part numbers to the thickness of the existing spacers.
The other problem is the damned service manual only gives color codes for the springs (yellow or green) not the 3 letter code I'm familiar with. Sure would be nice if they standardized the descriptions.

Maybe this will help. I just miked the the spacers that were installed on the spring when attached to the original suspension. Total thickness on top was .435, total on the bottom was .460.

That's not the problem John unless they show how the color code corresponds to the letter code. The spring he has is an NYR.

Sorry, no mention of colors There's an NYR listed for the 85-87 as "Y07 EXC FE7" #22112253 and 88-91 as "Y07, FE7, 89-90 Y07, FE7, FX3" with the same part number...

Have to laugh at this one, typical of car manufacturers really, the parts manual uses one type of reference (three letter code) the service manual uses another (color), duh!

I would ad one to the bottom as close to .225 as you can get based on what I see, doubt seriously if .015 on top will cause any issues.

It doesnt matter one bit where you put the aluminum shims. Ive been moving them around for over 9 years and never experienced a problem. The NYR spring will be a fair bit thinner than any 84 spring, so yes, youll need more shims, or thicker shims.

On the 90 there was probably some sort of packing above the top spacer between that and the diff housing.

The more shims you put at the top means the higher the car will sit, the more you put at the bottom and less at the top means the car will sit lower.

Ideas on what mat to use to make new shims. Should I machine new spacers w/ locating lugs from new stock? THERE IS A torque for this connecting bracket and it"s hard to tell if it"s attached properly. How secure is spring attached at diff?
