The install is basic if you already have the pedals in. The brackets and wiring under the hood has me more worried than anything.

I posted a thread a while back about my decision.

As opposed to the Zf6: Clutch choices, ability to workon/upgrade, more aftermarket support, hydraulics.

The only con I know of is in stock form it is not as strong as a ZF6 but let's face it, nothing on my car stays stock.

Coming along. Do you have to remove the steering column or is there enough room to cut and mount what you need?

One I get the last two nuts off holding the auto brake pedal assembly I will see if it can be maneuvered out.

More happy happy fun time.

Started today by taking out the steering column.
SO MUCH MORE ROOM. Should have done that earlier.
Took out the gas pedal to upgrade the mount to the metal one I got here a few months back.

Resized Image

Resized Image

Resized Image

From here I took out the brake pedal and began test fitting the clutch bracket. Had to cut away some plastic liner and fluff. Used a scribe to punch a hole to mark the master cylinder and bolt hole positions.

Had to move the cruise control to the side for a bit to use a airratchet fitted with a bit to cut the hole BUT:

Resized Image

IT IS IN.

Pedals all installed except the gas.

Resized Image

Resized Image

Oh and Trans is IN completely. Driveshaft back in place with a new yoke.

Next is to put the steering column back in, remount the gas pedal and rebuild the interior.

Need to do:
Mount slave, retrofit hydraulic line, mount shifter and have boot made.

For sure. IF you are going from a auto to manual and need the pedals. 4+3 or Zf6 would have been a much smoother trip.

andy I am not sure the LT1 T56 can be made into a 6060 like the LS style but when this one goes I will be shipping it off to RPM to get the best of the best without getting faceplated.

I am pretty sure you can. The fitment to the engine is decided not by the box, but by the bell housing.

I am not sure of the conversion. T56 uses a different clutch style. If I converted to the LS style I would not have an issue whatsoever. The LT T56 is the redheaded stepchild much like the C4s in their entirety.

I do know it can be made into a magnum strength that have survived to 800+

Magnum strength? gee... sounds like good marketing

I still question how the trans determines the clutch style... unless the case size changed.

But the key is the bell housing...

Trans doesnt the hydraulic type does.
LT1 style is a pull style pedal and the LS1 is a puch style.
Would need to switch out hydraulics to use the newer style.

There are plenty of clutches out for the LT1 that can hold 1200+ so no need IMO.

Magnum is just the name. It has the stronger gears and a 31 or 33 spline output shaft like the viper spec T56.

Here is my point... if you had a longer bell housing, any type of clutch will work.

Neither the engine or the trans really give a hoot as to how the clutch functions... it's all in the bell housing. That establishes where the hydraulics go... how thick things can be... you name it...

Personally, the next clutch I do, I am going with a hydraulic bearing!

Well whatever it may be I got a lil RAM clutch to tide me over to learn and wait for the next motor.

On a side note I found my oil leak issue I had for 4+ years.

Intake from USM, modified holley stealth ram or HSR, was MUCH higher in the middle than the outside. Had it milled so should solve the issue but this was a $1400 intake that should not have had this issue. Poor heating for welds was the issue I presume.

Where did you get the bracket?

And which c-beam did you use?

I am approaching 200k on my 92 ZF, and I can't swing a $3k rebuild, so I might just grab a used T56 and do that for a stop gap...

Thank you sir. Prostreetcustoms used to make one but from reviews never fit quite right so I said screw it lets make a beefy one.

Prostreet used 2 long bolts like normal and a single small one to hold the bracket on the driverside of the transmission.
Mine uses 4 HUGE ass bolts. It doesn't move at all.

you need to consider making them... Didn't Pro Street shut down? Or something like that?

If your part is now the only one, it might be worth considering.

Just a thought... when you are done, make 10 or 15 of them. I don't think you need to make 1000 or even 100, but 10 or 15, have them powder coated and sell them for a good coin on ebay. I think you would be surprised how well they do.

Your design sounds solid... and you may want to include beam plates, too. Make it a full on deal.

What bell housing did you use? The 4+3 or an fbody?

I like the idea of the RAM clutch, cause it has the hydraulic bearing... I have considered that, but I found some really good ZF6/C4 hydraulics at NAPA... put them in 5 years ago and they are still kick'n ass... the slave is a cast one piece unit, no leaks at all. Made in Taiwan, I have had very good luck with stuff made in Taiwan.

If it didnt take 10+ hours of fitting and tinkering I would gladly make a few more. I would never get my money back plus I do not live at home where I had access to all the tools in my dads shop.
Also dealing with customers who are never happy is not something I want to ever do again.

RAM is just a learning clutch for me. I am sure it will fail with the power and novice manual driving ability. A McCleod will take its place in due time.

I amusing the F-Body housing for now since it came with it. When it comes back out I hope to have a SFI safety bellhousing installed because I like my feet.

Looks like good work. And snappics too!

Slowing down the wrench, to shoot work, AND write it up has SO many benefits - re-sale (if ever), other guys doin' the same work, you think it through better - ESPECIALLY when you hit a snag...

PLUS others can hit you up with parts.

Little late now, but I have my C-Beam and Bellhousing from the auto conversion (AND pedals), and a few other parts, MC, SC for clutch, also have the DMF, but I think the springs are toast (is it serviceable???)

Last round of updates until my next trip down.

SHE RUNS AGAIN. Timing is set and fires right up.
Clutch has awesome pressure after bleeding it for 15 minutes.

Steering wheel/NRG hub/MOMO all 'on' now.

Need a nice piece of cloth to put down in the hole to tidy it up a touch.

Next time I am down I WILL be driving it. Just need to put a few more plastics on, driver seat, and 'new' cigarette lighter location.

It lives.

Drives great. Nice and smooth. all gears go in fine. No grinds.

Issues: Reverse lockout. Need to put on a switch.
More power ie bigger motor with a blower.

elaborate on the reverse lockout. Is it too easy to fall into the gate without some restriction?

That lever is how Ferrari solved the problem.

I cleaned up your posts!

I finally figured it out... there is a URL command wrapping the img command... that's what we see and that's what shoves the pic all the way over to the right.

Remove the URL wrap and all tidies right up.

All solenoid activated. I will wire up a toggle.

On allows the shifter to go in. Off no way to. Like the lever but electrical.

Should be able to use R just takes a little more effort I have no solenoid on mine been using it for yrs like that

You can get a Viper input shaft in there but will need to cut the end down some and machine the tailshaft housing for a proper fit

There are plenty of aftermarket gear sets you can get they are pricy though. 6th is so damn tall..stuff isnt cheap

Put the steel 3-4 shift fork, billet keyways, the carbon blocker rings in should hold good.

To those trying to convert the Pull style clutch takes .030 at the disk to fully disengage any less it will be notchy any more you may overextend the slave. If youre using the Fbody slave the travel at the rod inside is no more than 1 inch. Hope this helps.

Push type LS1 better agreed.

My short throw may be some of the issue with reverse but if it doesn't get better with some miles I will see what I can do to make it better.

When it goes 'not if' next year I will be sending it for a nice build and 32 spline output, DSS driveshaft and 12 bolt rear end. Just want to learn to drive with it for now since it is finally working again.

Could be the shifter
Mine has always felt kind of notchy
Rebuilt it twice thinking synchros (trans only had 1500 mi when I bought it) new slave, reconfiguring the geometry of the rod, throw etc etc

Never thought it was the shifter
B and M ripper when they first came out
Bet a Hurst fixes it. If not I got a stock one.

THey (b and M)are real notchy on the ZF so maybe....?

Alright. Got some more miles on her and NO PROBLEMS.
Pulls harder and rowing is very easy with the MGW. Not a single missed shift except 5->6 when I am not paying attention and go to 4th instead.

Also my common maf code hasn't come up yet even with fun driving so maybe I unintentionally fixed that as well.

I definitely need 3.55 gears out back to fix my ratios. 70mph=1400rpm.

No speedo as I will not be using the dakota digital box but I will be getting a new gauge cluster with a GPS speedo soon.

Ill start my next thread when my next batch of parts begin to arrive. Hello Dart 400 with juicy AFRs. Hoping for 475rwhp BEFORE boost.
