I was scouting around for oil leaks last night, and it looks like my valve covers are leaking toward the back, so I'm gonna replace the gaskets. Any particular brand or material better than the rest?

Thanks in advance!

Good question, I just ordered the ~$17 pair from Kragen for my '84. I am not sure if they are good or not. I'll be able to report I guess in a month or so.

A lot of guys like the Felpro perma-dry, it's a silicon rubber gasket.
Sorry, I don't have the LT4 p/n but the LT1 is: VS50443R
You could find the part no. at Summit, "search by engine"

Thanks! Looks like NAPA carries them, too (pretty sure it's the same gasket for LT4).

Shouldn't need anything on a good silicone gasket. Also, some brands of gaskets for the later LTx composite covers come with new bolt grommets and some don't. But make sure and replace them too. They help to maintain the proper amount of pressure on the cover gasket. I remember that Carquest carried the grommets separately. Sometimes just replacing them will stop the leaking on the cover gasket.

I'm pretty sure those Fel-Pro gaskets ($22.99 at NAPA) come with the grommets. I'll find out when I pick them up in the morning.
