When I turned off my headlamps on the '88 last night I heard a clunk.

I found the headlamp cover sitting under the clamshell, undamaged.

Lucky it didn't fly off at some earlier point I guess.

Anyone know what type of adhesive is useded on these things?

wow, this is a first as far as I know.

I would assume 3M double sided would be the adhesive of choice.

I know thats what GM used for mounting the GS Flares, and several other things, so it only makes sense they would use it there too.

As luck would have it...

I'm having the new Targa painted on Monday, so I'll see what they have to re-attach it.

Thanx

On my 85 it's glued to just 4 little pads, mine came partway off. Yours is a result of GM's redesign.

You need to use some super strong 2-part epoxy on there and to prep the surfaces well. Double stick isn't going to cut it.

Be sure the epoxy is able to deal with SMC.

They seem to be some type of cheap pot metal, like the mirrors.

I thought the lids were SMC? Interesting.

Hell, with pot metal, clean it up, and hit it with some JB Weld.

Get yourself a Milwaukee V28 cordless hammer drill, drill a couple small pilot holes, then use some self drilling 3/4 inch tek screws. 3/4 inch should be long enough. Sounds like alot of overkill from the word go, but you dont want it to come off again

This is for sure not pot metal. SMC is my guess, and it's the same color as the body on both sides.
