I put some black leather dye on my steering wheel yesterday, and polished it today. I wish I had a before picture, it really made a big improvement. Lots cheaper than a new wheel too.
My seats are red, and have some wear. If I could get the right color dye, I know it would make a big improvement there. Anyone ever dye their seats? Where do you get the dye? Does it match well enough you can do a section without doing the whole seat back? That would be ideal.

Here's how my wheel looks now:

Looks great! Somebody at that other forum recently dyed their seats (I think with some kind of DupliColor spray), but I thought they turned out kinda wierd - real shiny. I had seen some leather place online a while back that had dye kits, but don't have it bookmarked.

Thanks.
I saw the Duplicolor post. That's not for me. It's a paint. I want a dye, something that will work into the leather and not work into my clothes.

I saw that and then in another reply saw what some other guy did with the non glossy paint...looked pretty sharp...all users who replied said there were no transfer problems...might be worth looking into until I can do a full on interior restofication...

You may want to check our newest vendor's, Eastwood, site. I haven't looked at their catalog in a while but they may have something besides the Duplicolor.
I remember seeing seat dye somewhere in one of the restoration catalogs. The tough thing will be to match the color.
I did the shoe polish thing on a friend's C4 steering wheel last summer and it worked really well.

I don't know much about dyes, but I do know that when I got my vette, the prior owner had spruced up the steering wheel with some dye, and I had black coming off on my hands for a few weeks.

I don't know if it was the type of dye, or the fact that I use lotion on my hands and it rubbed off? It was very odd. I guess this is just a warning to make sure the dye used is appropriate.

Hey Bastet, the shoe polish thing won't come off in your hands if it's dryed for a while and buffed good. You're right about worrying that the dye will rub off, I've never tried it on seats.

Dale, check here:http://www.leatherworldtech.com/category.aspx?categoryID=36
I don't know anything about them but this looks like what you want. There's a couple of other sites on Google too.

Thanks Bill. Mid America has a kit for $59. I think I'm going to give that a shot. That way, I can be a little more confident of the color match.
