Don't you mean $1.60?

Just another result of devaluing our currency to bail out the mortgage bankers.

Dale, yes but it wasn't a decimal point, but the end of the short sentence.

That tends to chase up energy prices plus with the news from Mexico and Nigera can't help and the Saudis' speaking of ending increasing production in 2009.

Oil prices just spiked to $119.74 a barrel.

It's so comforting knowing these countries know they can count on us for help if there is a disaster or war, but they could care less about what is happening to our economy with the increased fuel costs.

Bailing out the banks is a sore spot with me as well. Greed and stupidity led to the problem. If things don't continue to pick up my business could go down the toilet this year. I don't think the government could give a crap if we close up and my few employees lose their jobs. I could hear the snickers now if I were to ask for a bailout.

The bad part about my situation is I am suffering due to these 2 factors which are out of my control. We'll help bailout large companies such as banks, airlines and automobile manufacturers but what about all the small businesses that are affected? Not a damn thing is ever done for these people.

Please don't take me wrong. I am not a person who looks for handouts in any shape, form or fashion. I have never even drawn unemployment and I am 51 years old. All I am saying is when other factors affect your business and those people get a bailout it doesn't do anything for a small business that is affected by their dilemma.

You just covered what John F Kennedy covered in his inaugural address delivered on Jan. 20th, 1961....I think it was in his forth paragragh.

Our fuel costs haven't gone up more than anyone elses.

The deflating dollar hurts us, and you can blame a bunch of that on the pipedream real estate market that went unchecked. I don't think Iraqis had much to do with that.

I touched on that subject in my 2nd comment.

What does the U.S. actually sell abroad anymore? Farm tractors? What else? The writing was on the wall for this economy over 20 years ago when it became a service economy. We're paying the price too for not heeding the warnings of the 70's about a looming gasoline shortage and our dependence on foreign oil. You can ignore your problems but it doesn't make them go away. We have a soft economy today and I think it represents the general condition of the American people. They're too freakin soft. (That includes me). No more talk. It's time to roll up our sleeves, put away the rule books amd start getting something accomplished.

Good point. If these countries need security they should hire Wackenhut. I can cut a little slack on natural disaster because everybody needs a little help now and then.
But I'd only help our friends.

I had this conversation with someone the other day. Our American companies are outsourcing their labor to other countries to manufacture cars, tv's, etc... Now we are outsourcing our services. Something bad is going to happen one of these days and we will not have the labor forces to go back to producing our products.

I understand they have to do this to compete against the cheap labor in other countries. If proper tariffs had been set against these countries several years ago to balance the trade deficits, we would not be in this situation today. In order to balance it today we would see drastic price increases on products.

As you said, we ignored the problem and now it has gotten out of hand.

Free trade is a bad idea because it slowly evens the playing field. I don't want that, I don't want to be living the same quality of life as the average 3rd world citizen does.

Some people are for wealth distribution, I'm not.

Just traded at "eur/usd 1.56323"
