I can say now from experience, this AMG is without question the best car ive ever driven in my life.

So much power, so much control. The seats massage you as you drive, they pump up the side bolsters automatically as the G forces increase in cornering, the traction control is so smart, you dont even know its on. The brakes are HUGE, 6 piston calipers on the front, discs so big they only just fit inside the massive front wheels. When you put your boot into the anchors, you relise exactly why you need to wear the seat belt. You can pull the car up in such a short distance, that you just cant hold your head back.

The 6.3 ltr V8 is so smooth, it roars like a beast, and delivers incredible power (alot more than the 7 ltr engine in the C6 ZO6) from the second you boot the throttle all the way to the redline. From inside the car, it is very nice and quiet, the faint roar of the exhaust can be heard, but is not irritating at all. From outside, the beast really does roar, and its as loud as any Corvette AFTER you put a straight through performance exhaust on it, however the note is some what more exotic.

The car is pure quality everywhere you look. The feel is 2nd to absolutly none. The semi-auto transmission can be shifted via paddles on the back of the steering wheel, and not like a Ferrari or Lamborghini where the paddles ar located on either side of the column so you cant steer with both hands and shift at the same time, these are mounted on the wheel, so they turn with the wheel. Much smarter idea.

The particular AMG i drove (CLS 63) is one of only 24 in Australia.

Any of you that have the chance to take one of these uber Mercs for a drive, dont hessitate.

From all I've read and seen (on TV road tests) these are very impressive cars, just as you've said. It must have been quite invigorating to actually experience it.

I know you're fresh off the buzz of driving a quality car, one I wish I could drive, but being Corvette oriented, I'm going to stick up for the Corvette. I haven't driven a C6 Z06 either, so this is just by the numbers:

07 CLS 63 AMG - 514 HP 8.2lb/hp, 0-62mph 4.3sec, base price $93,000
06 Z06 - 500 HP 6.3lb/hp, 0-60mph 3.7sec, base price $70,000

I think the Z06 can hold it's own.

:goodpost: Congrats Case, very cool. How did you manage to end up in the driver's seat? 1 of 24, that's a score.

I think the Z06 can hold it's own.

While those figures you quote may be good, i doubt any regular driver can get it to 60 in 3.7, where as the AMG, all you have to do is point and stab, the computer does the rest for you.

The fact that the AMG 6.3 ltr engine makes that much more power than the GM 7 ltr is a credit to its maker.

Also, youve listed 0-60mph for the Corvette, and 0-62mph for the AMG, so youve just increased a gap by comparing apples and pears.

For the sake of under half a second, id take heated/cooled leather seats that not only pump up around corners, but massage you as well (and it feels incredibly good) over basic leather seats that dont do anything, and ill always take a 7G-Tronic over a regular 6 speed any day!!

Belongs to a good friend of my mum, she has had it about 12 months, she doesnt let anyone drive it, but she knows my driving record and my 9 years behind the wheel of Corvettes. She was very impressed with my Corvette too when she drove it, and couldnt believe how well it performed considering what ive spent. No question that dollar for dollar i blow the AMG away, but standard of car, the AMG is the best you can get bar none on earth. Ever.
