I had to make a run to Home Depot, and on the way I saw a beautiful '55 Packard, tutone blue, sitting at a stoplight amidst a bunch of other cars. It struck me how distinctive it looked, and made me remember the old days when car styling was more than a variation on a jellybean theme. When I was a kid I could recognize just about anything that drove down the street, and most often by year. Today, with few exceptions, I haven't got a clue. Sure, cars are more efficient today, and safer, too. At least as safe as the text-messaging cell phone jockeys piloting them.

Feel fourtanate you got to live thru that error at a young age. Some people(me) were born into the "jellybean" error.

I hear ya'. To me, automotive styling as a whole has been going downhill for 35-40 years. The 50s were definitely the golden age for total freedom of free-form automotive styling. I've really got the urge to own another 50s car and will, sooner or later. A guy that hangs around the hot rod shop has a '50 Plymouth coupe "project." I'm going to check it out soon with thoughts towards a vintage gasser style car.

The only cars I can tell apart today are the models I like. Even then I couldn't tell one year from another and that includes Vettes.

At the moment, I'm doing some online negotiating for a '41 Plymouth sedan delivery. There were less than 500 of these built that year. Plus it was the last year for Plymouth building commercial vehicles of this type. Could get interesting.....

+1 to that. Cars today are consistently look and feel all the same to me. Seems like its all down hill from here for the true enthusiast. When I drive I like to be part of the experience. Todays cars might as well drive themselves. No matter if you riding in a Corolla or a malibu they all ride, handle and sound pretty much they same. And they are all designed so anyone and everyone can drive them... especially those who shouldn't even be on the road. Thats why for the most part, although I drive a pretty plain car Monday thru Friday (Impy or Monte), at least my Impala has a little road feel, and some old skool toys to keep me busy... like solid axle rear, and a 350! (My girlfriend steals the Vette all week!, lucky her)

So it was a mistake that you were born?
