OK, I'm looking at Datamaster and if I understand their website correctly they require a serial port DB9 connection.

The cable I purchased is USB. Can Datamaster use USB, do I have it wrong?

If not Datamaster, here's a link of other software. Which one do you guys use that will support an USB based cable?

None of my laptops have DB9 RS232 connectivity.

Doesn't help. My cable goes from the OBD1 connector under the dash directly to USB. I have one of those, doesn't help.

I did a search "over there" about a year ago, came up with the matches for the software and the cable. Never bought them but they are available. There were 2 sources for the cable, one being the adl and that worked with the Datamaster.
That's just from my memory cause I'm typing and watching NHRA at the same time. I'd suggest searching for ODB1 cables.

I have the same USB/ALDL cable and just did a quick check on my 86 and Datamaster seems to connect to the car fine, I cannot do a full test as the inlet manifold is off my car at the moment.

Easy way to check is to just plug it up and give it a go, Datamaster gives you 20 free recording sessions to test.

Previously I used a SERIAL/ALDL cable but my new laptop does not have a serial connector.

John , you need to load the serial to USB software that allows the laptop to see the USB port as a serial port.It is on the disk that came with the cable.
