NOPI cancels remaining events for 2008

NOPI Motorsports, which hosted import drag races, drifting competitions and car shows, has canceled the rest of its 2008 season, citing "an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season."

"The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events," NOPI said in a statement. "Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live."

NHRA, which sanctioned the events, was officially disappointed.

"NHRA is surprised and extremely disappointed to hear that NOPI Motorsports has announced that it plans to cancel the rest of the 2008 NOPI Drag Racing Series season," its statement read.

NHRA encouraged racers to participate in its Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Summit Racing Series, as well as reminding racers that Battle of Imports has four NHRA member tracks remaining on its 2008 season schedule, with events planned in Sacramento and Fontana, California; in Portland, Oregon, and in Seattle.

I read this a couple weeks back.

The import scene died the day Honda redid the Civic and left off things like double wish bone suspension.

The newer chassis used a compact inverted front strut that a) killed geometry and b) made for upgrading damned near impossible. They then ditched the Prelude and that was that.

I never had a problem with the concept; it was a modern interpretation of an American tradition. The names changed, that's all.

Currently, the only cars left holding the banner are things like WRX and Evo, but they are pricy... the lower end cars just don't seem to attract the same attention.

WTH does NOPI stand for anyways?

I know it's the series sponsor.
What they do I haven't a clue

Isn't one of the primary reasons people companies races is to get that kind of information out there?

Maybe that's why it died.

Number One Parts, Inc.

They started doing parts, then went into the import scene HUGE about 15 years ago. They are based in the Atlanta area.

It died because of the death of the easily modifyable Civic and the scenes own excesses.

If you have ever seen one of their TV shows, you would know why it took a crap. They were cheezy, sexist and plain old tacky.

Wow. Now I understand the issue... those girls at the bottom are not fat, just full figured. Let's cut them a break...

This is fat - more accurately - obese:

Resized Image

That is not only unattractive, it's unhealthy.

I, for one, am sick and tired of the bean pole mentality this country (and the modeling industry) seems to have these days. It'a about time women are allowed to have a shape.

I for one don't find this attractive:

Resized Image

That is just as unhealthy for the woman in question. I see ribs, that is not good.

If you had to run against a good driver a new Civic Si on the roadcourse, I believe you'd change your mind about it.
