i hit dragway 42 last month for a few runs with the 54 belair

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oS4Wf1cM_eM

best of the night was a 13.9@99.58 - just missed 100mph, i'll get it next year. i think it moves well for a 4 door with a mild street 350 and a 2.73 open diff "launching" on 245/45/17 HTR-Z's

needs more gear, but i don't want to give up my cruising rpm, so i might add more power instead.

it's officially .5 sec and 6mph faster than the vette if you count the runs i made at beech bend in 01 with a cracked spark plug when it was my dad's car and he had no idea i was running it.

once upon a time i rebuilt the original 125hp six. it was so painfully slow, the 4 wheel drums didnt stop for crap and the kingpin front end liked to wander all over the place. the original engine now resides in a "rat rod" (i hate that term) 54 chevy pickup that belongs to a HAMB member in illinois.

dont need it, built my own chassis using only the cleaned up original frame rails, the rest is new from crossmembers out. tubular everything in front w/ discs and rack&pinion and corvette sway bar and 4 link w/ panhard bar and coil overs and discs out back.

the LS stuff i have is going in my truck but thats a whole other deal to get into.

I do too, I detest it and the concept. I like traditional style rods and it pisses me off when someone calls one of those a rat rod because they're too ignorant to know the difference.
So besides a healthy V8, what else did you do to update the old girl?

What were you running against? Looks like an EVO. I bet he figured he'd smoke the old lead sled next to him, but it turned into a very close race.

Looks like a good launch for what you've got!

that was an SRT-4 supposedly with nitrous and slicks and all kinds of other stuff with a guy behind the wheel that can only manage a 13.4 - i heard him tell people it was his first time at the track and then i talked to other people that say he's there all the time and can't drive for crap. his fronts were aired so low that i was afraid to be next to him, but D42 has zero tech, they dont even ask for your license. the guy at the line asked if i had a seatbelt and that was it.

not too much done, the above suspension stuff, 355 with vortec heads and a very very mild gmpp roller cam, full 2.25" duals w/ h pipe and $15 summit turbos, 4 link has panhard bar and all QA1 5/8 rod ends, tilt steering and i made the column with flaming river joints and hacked up gm steering shafts. it has a sumped 2nd gen camaro gas tank with a mallory comp 110 fuel pump, howe radiator, electric fans, power steering and brakes. not much left original except the body and frame rails and the torn up seats i got out of another belair that a dude gave to me after he pulled it out of a junkyard for the rare power options it had. and 17x8 cragars all around. 4 wheel discs, etc...
