First time I've ever been to a dragstrip today. Went to Beaver Springs, PA. Ran my first pass without spraying, rolled into the throttle to launch since I didn't want to risk spinning sideways on my first pass ever. Here it is:

1.808 60 ft
12.952 1/4 mi
105.06 mph.

I was pleased and knew there was a little more to be had as it was a little rich on the air fuel ratio. Next pass I sprayed the 175 shot just after launch.

1.750 60 ft
11.549 1/4 mi
120.88 mph

At this point I was in disbelief that I made mid 11's and 120 mph on my first pass spraying. Air fuel ratio was mid 10's while spraying so I played with nitrous jets and made another pass. Ended up with:

1.712 60 ft
11.436 1/4 mi
121.34 mph

AFR was mid 11's, perfect for me. Last pass I sprayed the instant I launched. Broke the tires loose just a little, as seen by the 60 ft. Here it is:

1.819 60 ft
11.471 1/4 mi
122.06 mph

The best part is, I drove it in and ran it without doing a single thing to prep for the track. The way I raced it is exactly the same as I drive it on the street. The stock 98,000 mile bottom end ran flawlessly. The D-36 held up just fine, as did the stock 700R4. I thought for sure I'd need a trailer by the end of the day due to the stock driveline. Not the case! I got to race a C6 Z06 and I beat him by a full second. He was running low to mid 12's. When we raced he ran a 12.53 at 118.7 mph with a 2.04 60'. He actually beat a Ferrari that was there running earlier. My buddy's Cobra got a 11.26 @ 129 mph, but in the 1 pass we got to run together I had about 2 lengths on him when his trans wouldn't come out of 2nd gear. We got him fixed. He would have had me on the big end but I'm not admitting that to him!!! I am so pumped!!! I want to touch the 10's while still on the stock bottom end now, but I want to do it without using any bigger nitrous jet. There is a little more to be had as the bottle pressure was around 900 all day. 1 heater just isn't enough for a 15lb bottle. Maybe 2 bottle heaters on that bottle will get the pressure up to around 1025 or 1050 and pick me up another .1 or .2. Then maybe AFR heads, or a small supercharger? Not sure what else to do to pick up some time and stay with the stock 350.

Not your last trip to the strip, either? You've inspired me! Thanks.

Damn! That's an impressive set of runs!

You REALLY want to blow up that short block, eh?

A little advise, build the bottom to hold the power, otherwise, when the bottom end blows, it just might ruin those nice new AFRs.

I know what you are thinking... but at those power levels, the rest of your drive line is a ticking time bomb.

Yes, I can't wait to go back! I was expecting a high 11, possibly 11.5 at best. The biggest surprise to me was the mph. I was expecting 115 at the very most. When I test run on a desolated road around here I only run it up to about 105 at best, usually about 90. So yes, 122 was cooking for me! And it was still pulling HARD when I went through the traps. 3.07's are not really optimized for a 1/4 mile I guess.

I love that I set this car up to be so easy to drive. It shifts automatically at 6200 rpms. When I launch I just mat it to the floor and it dead hooks, then I hit the nitrous and enjoy the ride.

Bogus, you are 100% right. I kind of have a goal, which is to get as fast a 1/4 mile as I can out of my stock bottom end before it blows up. I can control the timing and I have a wideband gauge so I can run safe from detonation. That said I hope when it goes it is just a matter of rings ending up in the oil pan and smoke out the exhaust. The chance of ruining the new AFR's is what is holding me back. Maybe I'll tweak on other things and see if I can't muster a 10.999 next year. I am going to get a constant pressure valvebody from TCI this winter to keep the line pressure up to help the tranny survive, but when it dies it dies. No sense replacing it till it does. As far as the rear, I think it will last with the 3.07 gears, even with the drag radials, as long as I wait till I start moving before hitting the nitrous. I've put about 6 15lb bottles of nitrous through it so far, most of it on 150 jets, some with the 175's and nothing has broken yet.

Ok... as long as you are well aware of what you are dealing with!

I would keep running it as is... and see where and when it blows.

As long as you have the wideband and the right gauges, any risks of a tune related failure can be easily mitigated.

I am jealous.
Next time you go, tell the owner (Beaver Bob) Pete Kane says hi.
By far, my favorite track in the US.
Bob always caters to his racers, and the environment there is great. Overall, that track tends to be a tenth or 2 slower than average, but a couple of mph higher than average.
I have set all 3 of my bests at that track
ET
MPH
60'

Pete, we are going again in the spring, I'll ask around to see if he is there and will tell him you said hi. I didn't really meet any of the track people, I was too nervous trying to figure things out. I kept pulling through the beams and having to back up. By my last 2 passes I figured out that the staging beams are much closer together than I expected. I wanted to walk around more but between tweaking the car, checking things over and over for leaks (just nervousness), and helping my friend work on his car we ended up not having much time to walk around. Did meed a few nice people and it was AWESOME watching some of the cars run. Next time I go even if I only make a couple of passes I'm going earlier so I can watch more.

And btw, thanks Pete for helping me get my governor set up last fall. That is one more piece of the puzzle that makes this thing so easy to drive. Honestly, I just heat the tires, pull up to stage, put it in drive, push the purge, stand it up on the converter to about 1800 rpms, then launch and hit the nitrous. It dead hooks and shifts itself going down the track. All I do is hold my right foot to the floor and watch the gauges.

Bob is a people person. He normally rides around on his little moped, and stops to shake hands with anyone he does not recognize. He must not have seen you, or I am sure he would have popped in. Although he is a diehard ford man, he has a fondness for any quick street car, and vettes are one of the few cars he likes from the GM camp.
There is a small chance I shall have a chance to move back to northeast Pa next year. If so, I will see you there

So how did the NOS feel? IMO, there is no feeling like it.

Honestly, once I got the afr right and remembered to purge, it hit like a punch in the face. It felt like the horsepower doubled. I like being able to say "If I beat you, I'll run you the next time on motor." That is what I was going to do with the C6 but I never had a chance to run him a second time. It was nice to see a guy having fun with a C6 Z06 and not being a snob. He was a really down to earth guy, unlike a few other C6 owners I know and see around.
