OK, skip the obvious answers.

I go to a local speed shop, about 40 minutes away, to pick up some ignition wires that I can custom cut to length...

I buy the wires and there's a trans sitting there on the floor, it's a 700R.

I ask how much, he said $1500. I told him what I had and he said that trans won't hold up. SO.....he took the specs and called JW out of Florida, that's whose trans it was.

They came back with $1800. That's $800 less than I am looking at. So I ask the guy, what's in it? For $1800 what am I getting compared to what I'd spend $2600 for? Is the input shaft hardened? Output shaft? What brands are used? Sun shell is what?

He got all huffy and said "just go buy the other one"..

I'm like, wtf? I'll give you the site for the one I'm looking at, they list all the parts. You tell me what is different. He says "no, it's OK just go buy the other one". I finally said, fine, I will.

Was I being a prick here asking absurd questions? Am I out of line? WTF?

Sounds like he is trying to cover up his lack of knowledge on the subject.
